Perfect day!

It is now clear... the geese refuse to go into their coop....

Are they too fat to fit? Or do they despise shelter and love getting rained and snowed on?

Unsure... the opening into the shelter LOOKS big enough for a goose. **I** fit (with stooping), but maybe if the opening isn't 4 feet wide they refused to use it?

When they were small and fluffy... they would go in, but ONLY if we set up a heat lamp to entice them.

Geese are notorious in wanting to be out where they can see things... and sitting on their feet they can keep them warm...
Put their feed in there... they will go in to eat... and have to come back out to get necessary water... so it doesn't get too wet inside... until they get more inclined to go in...
If you are wanting to lock them in at night then you might have to just drive them in....

I use a huge feeder... it wouldn't fit.

And... the coop doesn't have a door. The coop and run are mostly predator proof, so it is all one area.... I can't push them into the door-less coop and then lock them in there.

But last night it was raining... and so they every so often would ruffle their feathers to knock off the rain. It keeps me awake.

I am going to have to figure something out....

The sunset ... depending on when you want to start counting... takes a couple of hours.

Actually.... currently the sun doesn't get all that high. It just eases up over the mountains in the south east..... skims along the mountain tops, then slides back down south west.

Google tells me that sunrise was 9:54 am, and sunset will be at 4:05.

But really... arbitrary numbers in my opinion...

Plow guy is here now. Nice sized skid steer with a huge plow on the front.

When I was talking to him over the phone... to see if he would be able to get us cleared out today... he was saying that he thought the snow was much too wet for him to get it with his plow truck.

Kids were shoveling for hours. The snow on the church deck and paths is way too heavy/wet for the snow blower.

Still no power.

And!

A new power outage west of town... more people out of power than MY area that is out of power... so yep, they get ahead of us... and maybe we will have power by morning.

I should have mentioned that spouse was in town today for work ... brought home 2 hot pizzas for our evening meal. Nice!


Kids brought in a bunch of wood and started up the fire.

Mostly blind demented dog is having issues with this much darkness. And parrot thinks it is a bit too cold without her heater (yes, she has a cage heater), but with the fire started she will be fine.

Luckily, it isn't that cold (which is causing all the issues with the heavy wet snow) but also means that I shouldn't have to worry about freezing pipes in the buildings I manage. So... I see no reason to bother with getting generators going. I have the old fashioned kind... no instant on.

Anyway. Early night for me!

POWER!!!

Wahaha!

I am thinking that tomorrow i will:
1. Find all my power banks and charge them up, and
2. Try to remember where I put that nice oil lamp. I think I remember where the oil is.

Hopefully power and HEAT popped on for the places I manage... but it is warm enough, I am not going out to check until morning.

I was asleep, but the nightlight that helps spouse find the bathroom, popped back on... and that woke me up.
