Fun-E-Farm
Chillin' with the herd
Hi all. My name is Christine (or Chris) and I am married with two grown sons. We live in Taylor Co., Wisconsin. We moved here 16 years ago and have been playing "farm" for most that time but now husband wants to get a little more serious so started into beef. He has 20 some Hereford and Hereford X Angus and one Angus Holstein heifer. I am being dragged into this endeavor (long story) but am trying to warm up to it somewhat. I went and joined the Wisconsin Cattlewomen's Assoc. and attended my first meeting last week at the WI Cattlemen's convention in WI Dells.
We are also both attending the Beef U program put on by the UW Extension.
As a kid I was involved in FFA big time so know a little about cattle, more than husband does so when he said "we" should go to Beef U I figured if I didn't go he wouldn't and he needs to
. I admit I am learning and relearning a lot and enjoying it for the most part. I am a little dismayed at the general "feed corn", info presented more for a large producer and lack of organic information as we enjoy grass fed best but it is just a matter of tailoring our farm the way we want and finding the right information and connections for us.
Anyway, I also am a chicken nut and have six
, down from a big flock but I haven't added any since our first batch 14 years ago. These are all related to the original batch we had. I am seriously thinking of getting chicks again this year though to add in some new blood.
We also have 4 cats, 2 Australian Shepherds and horses. I work as a rural mail carrier sub and am getting back into my artwork that I quit doing several years ago. I'd also like to try my hand at a small market garden.
