Anyone have exp. with treating enteritis

Well, an update.
One survivor.
Seems to be doing okay.
I am planning on doing the corid prevention program.
Does anyone know how old the rabbits must be before getting this med.
Thanks

Hi Alsea1, has the poop on the one bunny improved any? How are the other bunnies doing, are they still fine? I googled corid for rabbits earlier, opinions vary widely.
Use 1 ts per gallon water 5 days on then 5 days off then 5 days on again. then stop. No mention of age just as a preventative or treatment. One thing I read said use 3/4 ts as a preventative. Perhaps use that dose on the smaller ones. I'm going to keep digging and see if I can find an age. Benebac gel is liked to promote gut health. There are a couple more places I'm going to ckeck on age. Take care.

Yes, I will def. give them digestive aid.
So far the other cages seem okay.
The trouble seems to rear its head at or around the four week stage. My only guess is that all the mothers antibodies are no longer protecting the bunny and this coincides with weaning.

My barn keeps them warm and dry but it is a barn. Dirt floor. So I can't really disinfect it.
I am going to go to home depot for a weed dragon so I can burn the debri off the cages.
I am determined to stop this destructive parasite.

Hi good to hear the others are still well. No dice on finding an age. I would try treating at 3 wks and see if that helps, if it doesn't then its probably not coccidia. Then it could be viral, bacterial or diet related. Your vet should be able to test the poop for a cause even if your vet doesn't treat rabbits but hopefully with all the cage scrubbing and corid you'll get ahead of what ever it is.

Another thing to get and have on hand, Biosol ( neomycin sulfate) powdered form sold for cows and goats. You can get it at TSC or your local feed store. Its the drug of choice for mucoid enteritis and other causes of diarrhea in rabbits. The dosage is 1 ts per gallon of water for a few days. Hopefully this will help if this thing comes back.

Great. I will def get some. My medicine chest is getting more expansive. LOL
I could just about open my own store.

LOL I know, between my goats, my rabbits and my dogs, me too!

No more deaths. Yea.
I have the rabbits with three week olds on corid prevention program.
The survivor is doing okay so far. Eating and active.
I have not put the preg. does on prevention program though.
They appear healthy. I'm afraid to give them anything at this point.
I am getting a weed dragon my next paycheck so I can burn off the cages when I clean. This should go a long way toward hygeine. I am so glad I don't have a long haired breed.

Hi Alsea1, thats great! May 2013 be full of lots of healthy litters :)

was wondering how things have turned out for the rabbits

what website were you finding the information on for corid and biosol- would be handy to book mark it.
