They are 3 weeks old. Mom is Nubian and dad is Boer. So they are 1/2& 1/2. They have yet to grow horns. And I have a pair of triplets that are 2 weeks old and horns are coming. Mom and Dad are not polled. But are these 2?

No polled bucks on my place. The buck the doe was bred to has horns. Doe ( moms) is Dehorned. I will double check mom. Her papers say disbursed on them. I will get pictures of both mom and dad then.

Everything I have ever read on the matter says that polled is a dominant trait (meaning that if the animal inherited a gene for polled, it will be polled), so any animal with horns does not have the gene for polled, and can't pass the gene on. Therefore, two horned animals can't have polled offspring.:hu

@Bunnylady is correct. One parent must be polled to get polled. I would check on the registration of the dam and check her sire and dam and see if either of those were polled.

It could be the dam was actually polled and the breeder didn't realize it and disbudded her
That does happen
That's what it sounds like.

We had that happen. My doe Red Hot was disbudded along with her brother. The sire was horned (disbudded) dam was polled. Both kids had massive nubs and were disbudded. Both kids ended up producing polled offspring :th

Polled genetics are such a pain!
