Coffee anyone ?

We've had rain forecast since last Thursday. The forecast keep changing (no duh!) pushing it further back and less and less, then moves it up more, pushes back less. I swear the ap and forecast stuff just wants 15 minutes more of fame. Got a little something last night - only measurable because I left a feed scoop out. Wondering now if meteorology is even a thing or taught anymore? Seriously wvwn the worst meteorologist when I was growing up was better than what we have now. OH WAIT - it's the education system teaching whatever. :hide:duc

@fuzzi your DSIL -- the things he will miss pizza, hot dogs, Carson's Ribs, maybe Hackney's. Pizza, good Chicago hotdogs (Portillo's) and Carson's Ribs can all be ordered online and shipped - a bit pricey but worth it on occasion. LOL Usually rare occasions. Pizza places (Lou Malnati's, Nancy's Stuffed Pizza, etc) have sales a few times a year.
We left the 'burbs there in '89. Trips back (few) and it's a whole new world and not in a good way.
OH and @farmerjan & @fuzzi I was told by my mother her family came over on the Mayflower - name Howard.
On early visits to see the Grands we did a few of the sites, like the Field Museum, the Willis (Sears) Tower, the aquarium, and we rode on the yellow taxi boats. A native on the ride with us had us get off the boat at Trump's hotel, and walked us to Uno Pizza, which she recommended as one of the best Chicago style pizza joints. It was good, but a very long wait.

Good afternoon all :frow
It's still storming. They predicted a little rain but we've gotten a lot. Haven't checked the gauge today yet. It's been nearly non stop thunderstorms for days now. Never seen anything like it here. Told DH God's prepping us all (us and our animals) for the midwest. :celebrate.
Heifer still won't stop licking her wounds. Trying to keep the faith that there's a reason she's not all healed up and I'm not on the road yet. We did sit down last night and chat for quite a while about where we are thinking about putting the shop, milking barn, greenhouse and some of the trees/bushes we want to plant along with remove some of what's currently there. Also discussed options for how we are going to set up our corrals etc. It was a bit refreshing focusing on something at home even though we didn't really accomplish anything there. Was just nice to talk about the future in a happy not stressful way. Well except the expenses that are coming part. Not looking forward to the costs of the building but can not wait for them. It's kind of nice to now have some idea's of where we are going to put things. Gives me some more hope. I can't imagine having an actual milking barn. I didn't know DH was really planning on that. I've always had to brave the weather no matter what. I can't imagine having everything in a place and not dragging a cart and supplies to where I need to milk. I'm very excited about that and having no mud under where I'm trying to milk.
We got some of the front pastures mowed this weekend. Grass is dying. Cut most of the stickers down while leaving some food for grazing. Maybe the crazy rains were having will grow some new grass now that the ground has sun access. Got some more pictures and measurements of things I'm going to be listing for sale too. I need to start writing up fliers and adds. I'm not great at it so I've been putting it off. Not to mention I do not like dealing with the public here. I'll force myself to get it done now that a few more things are completed and off the list from the last couple weeks.
Hope y'all are having a fantastic sunday :hugs

@ RR Homestead.... did you finally tell your dairy friends??? Surely once you list things for sale they will know...
We have not had any rain, to speak of... better than 8-10 inches short from last Sept on... we are never this warm or this dry this time of year.... friends in parts of Kansas and Texas and other places are begging for rain... Friends in eastern OR say there is no water in the reservoirs for irrigation this year... and several posters on CT in WY are saying there will be no grazing because there was no snow to speak of and no moisture now. Glad that you are getting some... might help with the fire danger there in CA.

YUP Uno's is great. I think the first deep dish (eons ago). Field Museum I think every school did field trips there when I was a kid. Fun.

No ma'am. No one new knows. Especially right now. I'm so tired of explaining to the few that do know why we aren't making progress with loads right now. Once we get the loads going again I'm sure it will be harder to hide. Especially as more bigger things leave. Obviously once the place is going to be listed everyone will know.
That's wild. We are getting weather that's not normal for us here. We are definitely low on water but that's not abnormal for us here. It may help the fire danger but actually may make it worse. A second growth will make the dry thicker. We've been nervous of fires with all the lightening. So far we haven't heard of any major ones. Last year we had fires start in the green grass here when lightening struck. Makes me very nervous now.

Same here. It seems like around here when enough folks start to notice we'll get a week of almost normal, then back to blazing hot (and btw a lot of chem trials or whatever you want to call them - like a sky full). Then nothing totally clear when things are closer to normal.
Yeah - the fire season will probably be brutal this year. Snakes are already way out of whack in counts here (another big one today but it got away  :( before it could be dealt with).
