I stumbled across this YT of the wild hogs in Texas. Interesting, and time to consider more Wild Boar sausage!!

Wow - that's some rabbit hole you went down!!! Really interesting video as well. I have a friend up in central Cal who has wild hogs that tear up the walnut grove, and goodness only knows what else. He does go out at night to take care of some.

That is a good video and so true. I’ve been standing at a trap and had a mean sow take a run at me, protecting her babies. She bounced off the trap just like in the video. They are mean, destructive and dangerous.

A friend’s son and some of his buddies poisoned hogs with tannerite. She had pictures of nearly 30 huge hogs, the tannerite blew them up.

My back field is not fenced, so I don’t walk back there. I take the mule or tractor. There was fresh sign this week. It’s ploughed up. I have cow panels blocking off the back yard or the hogs would be at my back door..

I posted these pictures last year, but they go with the video @murphysranch posted.

November 11, 2024. My son strapping down young hogs on a 4 wheeler. Hog trap is in the background.

November 24, 2024 A 200 pound boar hog Bennet shot in the trap. There was also about a 150 pound sow we cleaned and packed on ice that day.

Bennet and I skinning the hog.

Hams on the boat weighed 22 pounds.

I cut them into steaks.

Young hogs are good meat. The old hogs, not so much.

I have seen plenty of videos on the CT forum where the TX ranchers have so many problems with them... Unbelievable to me to have wild hogs in the numbers they have. One guy said that he kills about 100 a year
and it doesn't seem to dent the population at all. Said that the one game guy told them that they had to kill over 100 a year just to keep the population stable around there... this video said at least 60 percent to make any dent. They hunt them down there in all sorts of ways...
God bless you all @Baymule ... they say they are working their way north.... Hope they get shot as fast as they show up. I have heard they are in the SW area of VA,,, and they have done horrendous damage in the Smokey National Park lands.

Could feed a lot of hungry people with that meat, or make it into hog feed?

Open season on hogs? Bounties?

Just thinking.

Well, we know how fast they can multiply!! Huge litters and 3 farrowings possible, in just over a year 😱. Yeah, this is a BIG problem. Ya thought deer was an issue?? This one's worse. Waaay worse.

It's was funny to see the lone stand of forage be cut and hogs running out.

Certainly the meats could be used....tested first. Then used for people or meat eating animal feed.
