Sorted ewe lambs this morning. Moved them across the driveway. Took Cooper out of the middle field. Got hot, soaking wet and took a break. I went to town, needed a few things. Came back and Cooper was back with his girls. I guess my zip tied crap fence didn’t hold against 250 pounds of true love. I have 4 young rams in his regular pen, I may have to swap them around.

I bought a new tarp for the 4-cow panel hoop shelter. The old one ripped down the middle. It’s a year old and wind tore it up. Yesterday I took down the gates that act as barriers to keep the morons from climbing on it. It leans to one side because they had a moonlight dance party on it. I patched the holes they poked in it with duct tape.

Tomorrow I’ll put the new tarp on and barricade it with the gates so they don’t tear up this tarp.

Saw this & thought of all yall Texans on here. I have online friends in Europe & they really don't have ANY grasp of how VAST America is.... and most Americans just 'get' how big Texas is.

When we moved from Connecticut to South Carolina we were amazed at how long it took to go places. People would drive 4 hours one way just to go to the beach. And everything was measured in time, not miles.
:pop

I've been Southernfied since.

Dermatologist said for me to stay out of the sun and wear a hat. I told her I’m a rancher and I’m outside all the time. I got a hat. I hate it. I don’t like wearing a hat. The Anatolians barked the alarm, Sheba was upon the gate barking. I talked baby talk and they calmed down, but still suspicious. I bent down and the dogs snuffled all over that hat to their satisfaction. I let them out on the field.

Let ewes out in front field. They were on alert, convinced I was some kind of monster. The ewe in the bottom corner is Patches, a bottle baby, she loves me no matter what and was not afraid. The other ewe’s wouldn’t come out the gate until I stepped way back. Then they approached slowly, watching me intently, then ran out the gate and put distance between me and them.

Then to the hoop shelter. The bottom of the cow panels were buried. I had put more dirt inside to build it up higher, out of the torrential rains I get, so they can stay dry.

I started digging down to the bottom wire so I could attach the new tarp.

I opened the tarp, 16’ x 20’. The shelter is 16’ x 17’ and naturally I had it going the wrong way, had to turn it around. It is real heavy and thick, cost $50 at Harbor Freight.

I had to dig a trench inside and outside in order to attach the tarp to the bottom wire.

I got one side done and loosely attached the other end by folding it inside.

I went to the other side. I pulled and inched the tarp to the bottom wire.

On one of my breaks, sitting on the front porch, Rocky told me his face needed rubbing. Of course I was happy to oblige.

@Teresa and Mike CHS Rocky is butterball fat, just hanging out in his pen and the front yard. He has turned out to be such a sweetheart, calm, gentle and just wants animal crackers and his face stroked.

Little Ringo is a jerk that wants to kill me. He hit my son, backed off to hit him again and son sidestepped and hit him on back of his head with a bucket, knocking him to his knees. Next morning, he hadn’t eaten his feed and son got worried. LOL when I got back, he had eaten it, got over his headache, and was ready for his supper. Im going to use him this breeding season, then sell him. I’ll have to carry a hoe handle every day, keep a constant eye, and watch him closely. I can’t have a ram that’s out to get me. I sure wish he was a sweetie like his daddy!

I finished digging out the other side, got the tarp attached and quit for the day at 11:30 AM. Just too hot.

Today, I’ll put the gates back up along the sides to keep the idiots from climbing up on the hoops and the ewes can have their house back.

Our dear Mattress Mac sent his crew to help. He is a Houston institution, has a huge furniture store. In the aftermath of Hurricanes, he has opened his store and let National Guard sleep in the store in the mattress department, also has sheltered people in his store.

Taking a Gatorade break. I’m almost done. just too hot and humid, had to stop. Not much else to do and the girls can have their shady shelter back. I locked them out to keep them from running a destruction derby in there.
