Michael the logger had a friend show up so they sat there drinking, without a care in the world. Nobody was mad, it was all taken in stride and Charles got to meet a lot of neighbors. They were able to hug the other side of the road and get by the big wallowed hole.
Gotta love country living! We miss our place from 40 years ago when neighbors would stop in the mddle of the road and chat. There would be cars lined up behind them but no one honlked and when we moved on the next car would stop and chat. LOL All changed now with so many city people moved into the area in CA. We are back in the country here in TX but living on a highway so no neighbors stopping to chat in the middle of the road. :(

Baymule fed them all the first day. I just brought the essentials that she would need with 3 hungry boys. Since they came from the city I figured Holly wouldn't know how far she would have to drive for supplies so just got a few essentials to tide her over. I got bread and milk then after raising 5 kids and having 9 grandchildren, I reconsidered, went back and got an extra gallon and extra loaf of bread. LOL I was right - they didn't realize to bring a load of groceries with them. They will probably take some time to understand that they have to make a trip to town to do a HUGE shopping once a month and then a smaller shopping every couple weeks for milk and veggies. Our neighbors here have been good to us newcomers, so we like to pay it forward. We couldn't be there to help with the unloading so it was the best thing we could do. Baymule and her son worked all day Tuesday first trying to get them out of the ditch then taking the kids and wife to her home while they waited for the wrecker. Then they both worked all day on Wednesday unloading the truck and trailer. They were all exhausted after working all that time in the rain.

Had a great time visiting with Bay and Layne. He is such a kick! He kept us laughing the entire evening. We are so excited that Bay will have neighbors now. Three new families on her road and two of them military vets with small kids. So excited for her. Hoping a couple of them can learn to feed the sheep and dogs so she can visit us. :fl:fl:fl

Just a question how far is it to the grocery store. It is fun to hear how far and how often. When we moved we were less than 10 minutes from about anything we needed or wanted. Now we are 40 minutes one way to just a Walmart any thing else is farther about another 10 mins. Big shopping about every two weeks. We buy raw milk from a neighbor who drives 45 minutes to get it. We get that every Wednesday.

Lufkin is 25 miles, Crockett is 30 miles. Apple Springs has one of those grocery/convenience/gas stores and a Family Dollar store. That is 10 miles, not good for real shopping, but ok if you need a few things and want to pay the thieves for it. Lufkin has more shopping options than Crockett.

My ex-sister in law lost a leg above the knee in April. I've been taking her to doctor appointments, now physical therapy 3 times a week, getting groceries and whatever she needs. From my house to hers, to Lufkin and back again is a minimum of 100 miles round trip.

Yeah - before we moved it was no big deal to hop in the car and head out to Trader Joe's or a great family owned grocery store. 5-10 mins?? Getting a last minute item was no big deal.
Out here on the ranch it's easily 20-30 minutes. There's one little grocery store here in town but it's grungy, very limited anything, and ohhh pricey $$. Getting anywhere starts with a dirt road and very twisty paved roads.

But it also keeps the riffraff to a minimum, I'm thinking.

We're close to several stores, 1-2 miles to Wally World  but I'm the last house on a dead end street, so not much traffic.

What do yall consider riff raff? There’s lots of that here, plus even exotic species that thrives down dirt roads and isolated. Yep, we got ‘em.
METH MONKEYS.
Lost souls! My son dealt with so many of them when he was in the State Patrol. Truly heartbreaking. They closed the mental institutions and that's why there are so many on the streets now and now we have so many idiots in charge that want to provide needles and save injection sites. Not helping them, just fueling their illness.

Per my son, METH users can be very dangerous when they are hopped up, best to stay clear of them. 🙁

Most of the houses in my neighborhood are +/- 1100 sq ft, on 1/3 - 1/2 acre lots, built in the early 70s. Some are rentals, now, but there's still a good portion of owner occupied, all races. We get along fine. I suspect any number of us are armed as well.
