We've had some progress on the relationship between Debbie and Caleb. He's had the run of the house all day long, and he just looks at Debbie, waves his tail, then comes to me to let me know he's been a good boy. The child gate is still up on my bedroom door so she has a refuge.

I've been putting Caleb on the 20' tie out while I do the chicken chores. Sometimes he'll play with a feed bag, or I give him his soccer ball.

How I located the end of the tie out with 13" of snow.

:highfive:

Apparently Caleb's got a good nose, he started digging a hole over the septic tank.

I think I fixed it until I can move the tie out stake over a few feet.

I have not seen the stray dogs in a couple weeks, so I have been taking Caleb on leash walks to the end of the street and back again. Once the roads are clear we'll go to the park to resume our nature trail walks. His leash manners have improved.

You’ve had him for what? Just over 2 months now? He seems to be making good progress.
Correct, November 26 was his first day home.

He's still having late afternoon impulse issues, and today I had to put him in Time Out, "TO", like a toddler needing a nap!

But yesterday he put himself in for a rest, so today was just a minor speedbump.

More progress with Debbie!

Caleb is watching, head down, gate is open. Debbie's head can be seen just above the chair seat, she's in front of the refrigerator.

They had another polite confrontation today, about 24" apart. No growl or hiss from Debbie, then she stalked away while I praised Caleb.

Caleb didn't like wearing a bandana, started chewing off the corners. We'll try again.

Caleb accompanied me on my errands today.

First stop was at Wild Birds Unlimited, to use a 20% off coupon. I picked up a case of suet cakes, which should last a long time as they're "no melt", they can take warm temperatures. Caleb waited for me in the car for 5-10 minutes, no yipping.

Close by was Petsmart, and I've been thinking about picking up a spare "choke" collar, so I stopped there. I let Caleb sniff around the entrance before going inside. He was a little anxious, but stayed in a heel position as we walked around. I found a collar. He was quivering a little, but sat quietly next to me everytime I stopped.

After I had the collar in hand I let Caleb sniff the toys. There was no way I was going to spend $20 on a stuffed toy he'd gut in five minutes, but I recalled a Benebone recommendation from someone here. I think.

I showed him a wishbone. He loved the smell, so I brought it with me.

Close to the check out there was an "Under $5" display. I picked up a squeaky ball for $3.

There was a line at the checkout. Caleb did really well, sitting most of the time. I distracted him with a $3 stuffed squeaky toy.

I was extremely pleased with Caleb. He didn't "mark" in the store, not once. He stayed with me, though not "clingy", just proper heel position, and sat when asked.

He was a VERY GOOD BOY.

Benebone!

ETA: it was @SageHill who recommended the Benebone.
