Caleb's Chronicles

Earlier this morning Caleb pushed, had Debbie cornered at the end of the hall. I heard her growl, saw the situation, called Caleb. He looked at me, hesitated, then moved toward Debbie. She smacked him hard, and he looked surprised. I walked closer, in case intervention was needed, said "Do it again, Debbie, he needs to learn!" She hissed, I took a step, touched Caleb, and herded him away.

It's the next step, Debbie needs to teach him respect, but I don't want her hurt, either. She's never faced a dog before that didn't love her.

Update

Caleb has been doing two steps forward, one step back. He's been rebelling in little things, nibbling my hand as I put on his collar, refusing to sit at the gate, tugging at my sleeve. He gets anxious at raised voices, so I have been reiterating in a low, calm, firm voice. I stood at the gate for about three minutes, waiting, until Caleb sat on his own.

Now he's sitting without prompting...

I'm raising a teenager, again!

Yep, gotta push those boundaries. You didn't really mean it, did you mom? Lol

I THINK DEBBIE IS PLAYING WITH CALEB!

This afternoon Caleb has walked down the hall to where Debbie was sitting. Three times. All three times he turned and walked back to me in the kitchen AND DEBBIE CHASED HIM. Then she sat at the edge of the kitchen and let him know vocally that she wasn't playing, THEN SHE TURNED HER BACK TO HIM and walked down the hall nonchalantly while Caleb looked, then he followed her. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's encouraging.

It's been about three weeks since we walked here, not gone since just before the ice storm hit.
