I'm LOVING following this thread. Yall are doing great.
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on retirement!!!!
Thank you. Technically this is the first day, on retirement aka Social Security.
:celebrate

After this morning's first walk I put Caleb in his day crate with a frozen chicken foot (foster mom's recommendation), then drove about a mile to the vet to add Caleb to today's "walk in" sign up sheet. I'll take him over about 9ish. Based upon previous experience we'll have an hour or more wait, but there's always the possibility that some of the 7 or 8 clients ahead of Caleb will be short visits or no-shows, so it's best to be there once they open.

We're working on "drop" and not grabbing the ball out of my hand. I make Caleb sit and then take the ball gently once I offer it.

I've been using the standard "choke" collar for walks, but did get a martingale collar, which will probably be easier on his neck.

Vet Visit

Signed in for "walk in" at 7:30ish. Went back about 9:15, waited about an hour before getting in a room The waiting room was FULL.

Caleb was a bit antsy, not surprising considering the number of dogs there. But he got lots of petting from the gentleman sitting next to me. Then once we got in the exam room he got loved on by two female techs. Dr. came in and Caleb cringed, he's done that before with loud men. Vet is a little loud, but wonderful with the animals.
  • Vet said Caleb is 1 year old, or could be older, under 2 most likely
  • He has a cut on the paw he's been favoring and licking, got a shot of penicillin. He also has some dog nsaids
  • Caleb was put on flea and heartworm preventative, topical.
As I was standing at the front counter paying for the visit and meds Caleb marked it, on either side of me...MEN!

Then we went home, the experience wore me out.

P.S. While I was sitting in the exam room I noticed that Caleb had some feces stuck in the fur on his rear end. I lifted up his tail to get a better look, then laughed.

It wasn't feces...I've never had a male dog before, especially an UNaltered dog!
