I don't trust myself

Yes. Legal.

But if in the chaos and stress of the moment I shoot and miss I could hit other people's houses, cars. Most of the properties are 1/4 - 1/3 acre lots.
A pellet gun -- less worry of what's behind and will pack a sting. I use one on coyotes and lately the stray German Shepherds. I'm still careful of the background - but the distance a pellet will travel with force is a lot less than a bullet.

What about something called BYRNA.... a less lethal pistol designed to incapacitate an opponent at fairly close distances... CO2 propelled... used for people... but might be something that you could look into... I have considered getting one for myself since I know I will shoot , for personal safety, and might save me from winding up in prison..... I know it has a pepper spray and has something else to incapacitate an attacker. Not designed for dogs... BUT... might work. Not cheap, the cost of a decent pistol...
Pellet gun would be next choice... I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them.... but they would wind up dead here...

Got a call back from Animal Control, lady who remembers Caleb. I gave a detailed account of the recurring attacks by the loose dogs. She spoke fondly of Caleb, and sounded upset that he's been traumatized.

Speaking of Caleb, he's had his initial walk, in the fenced-in backyard, eaten his breakfast, and is now crashed out, sleeping on the floor close by. He seems a little calmer than last night.

Heavy overcast this morning. It started raining when I walked dogs at 5:45. Hmmm forecast, you guessed it - not supposed to rain. With the overcast I'm not sure what I'll do. Was going to let sheep out and clean out a stall. Think I'll wait a bit to decide.
@fuzzi - glad the AC remembered Caleb, that has to help since they have a connection with him. Glad he's doing better. As to finding out where the dogs came from, yeah it would be good to know, but I suspect the owner(s) could care less about what their dogs do. They ~could be nice, or not.
Need to get the sheep accounting set for the new year, will need to be getting more alfalfa within a week.

This morning I texted my AHEC guy, as I smelled a whiff of propane when I was working with Caleb in the yard yesterday. Turned out some valve was going bad, and since the unit is still under warranty they suggested replacing a second part that "was looking rough". Works for me.

Caleb barked when the service truck arrived, barked at the two servicemen but quieted down after I told him to sit and hush. I told them he was adopted from the shelter, and is still learning...and added that I was using them as part of his training. They laughed. Later I walked Caleb over to the unit as they were finishing up. Caleb sat, wagged his tail, looking for attention. GOOD.

Later in the house he jumped up on the barrier that keeps him in the living room. He acted blind and deaf to my Off command, so I asked him "Do you want to go to your CRATE?" He walked over and into his crate. He got petted for that.

Wicked Smart.
