Better check -- sounds like he's growing another set 🤣 Just leave my place, stray dogs!!

You need refillables -- he's a master at gutting those 😵‍💫
The stuffed toys are $1.25 each at Dollar Tree. I grabbed 5 but have only given him two so far. He loves the furry coverings, still plays with them after the squeaker and stuffing are long gone. DS calls them "pelts"!

And it running away from Caleb?
:caf

I'm wondering if taking him for walks and rides, experiencing new places, new people, new dogs, has given Caleb more confidence, to chase off the loose dog?
I'm sure it probably helped. Goes hand in hand (or paw in paw ;) ) with socializing your dog. The more experiences they get the better they are.

Cross posted in the Coffee thread...

Caleb had his first "wait in the car" today at the Postal annex (USPS, UPS, FedEx) while I mailed a couple packages. He was alone for about 5 minutes, and did well, no yipping, didn't seem upset. I did get a kiss on my ear after I got back in the driver's seat.

He used to be scared of car rides, now he starts bouncing around when I grab the car keys.

Saturday

After his first morning walk I have Caleb wait while I make his breakfast. Caleb knows "corner", which is sitting by the side door, and we've been working on "wait". He does well until I'm out of sight, then follows me, and I have put him back by the door. Rinse, repeat.

I get it, it's a process.

Today Caleb waited while I made his kibble and water, while I went out of sight, and stayed UNTIL I CALLED/RELEASED HIM!!!

:love

First time waiting correctly, on the first try.

Saturday (continued)

I didn't take Caleb to the park as early as I usually do, and it proved a bigger challenge. There were a lot of people around, and dogs, but despite all the activity Caleb did very well.

1. As soon as I parked a family came by, several small children, playing with a kickball, excited noise. I waited in the car until they left.

2. Jogger ran by, Caleb didn't react.

3. Man pushing a stroller came by. Caleb was interested, but I had him sit and wait to let them pass.

4. A lady walked by, said Caleb was pretty and asked was he friendly. I said he's not unfriendly, but recently from the shelter. She then wanted to give him a treat. I said I'd rather he not learn to take food from strangers, and she said "Oh, that's a good idea" and walked on. Caleb was interested, but sat and waited well.

5. An older man walked by, and I made Caleb sit and wait. I said "He's learning manners" and the man said "He's a good boy".

But we also had an encounter with a lady with two dogs, one was a large hound and one was a yappy thing. I was walking down one of the trail loops, saw her coming from the other direction. She exclaimed "OH NO!" and I said "I can go back". She retreated and I was able to pass her. I waited, giving her time to get farther down the trail ahead of me. Then we continued. At some point she decided to reverse and come back. When we faced each other again I stepped off the trail to give her plenty of room and she lost control of the large hound, which came running over. I said quietly to Caleb "Nice, calm, nice" and he stood quietly, sniffing noses with the hound while the woman came over to grab its lead, yappy dog in tow. Caleb was a bit anxious afterwards, pulling, but I walked on calmly and he eventually calmed down.

On the ride home he laid down in the back seat and relaxed.

Overall, a good day so far. Caleb was a very good boy.
