Dad is doing good. Says he's a little sore, but went to church this morning & did his driveway walk today. I'll keep checking on him, of course, but I think it was mostly his pride that was hurt.

Spent the day at the state fair. We had a great time but it sure had changed over the years.

Got home JUST before the hay delivery. I always love to see that trailer full as the grass shows down.

I got a couple of videos of the growing BYM chicks while I was waiting for him to arrive.

Glad he's doing well.💗

Nothing like a mama and chicks! 🥰

Sounds like a fun day!

You have been busy! Push mowers are not any fun. I have my sons zero turn plus tractor and bush hog. I’ve never had whatever it takes to start anything with a pull rope. Can’t start anything with a pull rope to save my life. I admire those who do!
I have a push mower with a pull start. I shove the mower forward with my left hand while pulling the rope back with my right hand. It works.

Jury duty today. They kept us in holding for 3hrs before the judge came to tell us that the defendant was having some sort of a mental health crisis & that the case had been canceled for now.
I misread the summons notice... I thought it said we would serve on 1 of the three listed court dates.... but apparently even if we had served today we would still be required Thurs and Friday. Sneaky Plant Manager isn't going to like the surprise extension.

Oh well. Going to grab some lunch & spend the day working on that mowing if the rain holds off.

I had a creepy boss one time. His office was at the roof of the shop, with glass all around. He’d stand at the window watching everyone. He stalked up and down the aisle, never saying anything to anyone. Everybody hated him. Do I decided to make friends with him. He was delighted to have someone to talk to. So one day I flat told him that everyone thought he was a S.O.B. He was shocked. I pointed out that he never spoke to anyone, never asked how they were doing, never acted like they were worth his notice. He truly didn’t know how. So I told him to call people by their name, ask if everything was OK, etc.
He did just that, people were bewildered but soon conversations were happening. He wasn’t such a jerk after all.

Your creepy boss truly sounds like a S.O.B.

He is.

I had jury duty again today. And again they eventually dismissed us after a few hours.
So today was an unexpected day at home! The weather has been beautiful 😍.
I assembled a tunnel from the opening on the screen door to the catio so that my sliding door isn't completely blocked anymore.
Then I mowed the chicken yard.
It took 5 garden cart loads to strip the 'bedding' down to the original floor in the coop! I dumped all that on the far side of the chicken yard, almost against the fence between them and the garden. Then I put a ring of old fence wire around the pile. This will be the start of a compost pile. I'm hoping that a couple feet of chicken poo - even old, nearly composted poo - will provide heat underneath this fall.
Once the floor was clean, I re-did the ladder up to the roosts. The roosts really need to be lowered but by then my back was starting to ache. The giant dog crate that was Mama Wendy & the chick's home is out - replaced with a smaller nest box. The babies were up on the roost last night 👍. A general cleanup around the feeder, the waterer cleaned & filled.
Two bags of pelleted bedding went under the roosts.

It's been a busy afternoon 😁. Looking forward to tomorrow! If all goes to plan.... I'll put the bagger on the push mower & finish up getting all this knee-high grass mowed. All of that will go on the compost pile. My goal will be to reclaim the garden area.

Does anyone have any suggestions about controlling asparagus ferns? Mine always end up laying all over the ground around the plants.
