For whatever reason, I'm still determined to try and have some kind of 'holiday connection' with Dad.
I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but my sister & I scheduled time off to take him to this huge drive-through Christmas light display up near Dowell. Then a week later he decided he didn't want to sit in a car that long.
A week or so after that I hear that the church that hosts the women's conference that we attend every year is putting on 'It's A Wonderful Life, the musical'. We asked if he'd like to see it, he said yes. It's tonight. I called yesterday to let him know the time I'd pick him up & the plan for dinner & meeting Pam and all. I said "Are you getting excited about tomorrow night? I am. " He said "I'm glad you are. "
Then he asked "So where is this... 'church?' we're going to?" I told him it's was in Mechanicsville & we'd just take 95 to 295 & then follow the directions in the phone.
"You don't even know where it is?!"
"Well, I've been there 3 times in 3 years.... so I don't exactly have it memorized. We'll be fine"
"<.... big long sigh> Ok. So you'll pick me up at 4:40? See you tomorrow. Bye"

It's going to be a long drive there & back .... But I'm still excited to see the show. I hope he'll at least attempt to enjoy it.

At least you will know you did it and if he want's to grinch it - so be it - smile and don't let it get to you.

Snow today. Started in the wee hours of the morning, pretty much done now (I think). Schools closed. Roads pretreated yesterday. The local community FB page is full of 'how are the roads?' & 'stay home, it's terrible!' posts. We got maybe an inch.
This summer's chicks are not enchanted.

I did not think this through.... all day yesterday, as I cleaned out the car & checked it out for a trip, I was planning out my errands to run..... today. oops
Well, hopefully the roads will be all happy later today. I'm going to spend the morning snuggled in with coffee, cats & monster movies.

There's a guy on BYC, lives in MN, who keeps his fall leaves stored next to his chicken run. After a snow he throws some leaves on top of the snow in the run, to get his chickens to leave the coop!

When it's deep I shovel little chicken paths around - like a corn maze but only 3" or 4" high.
