She is 5 months. She is a sweety having been here a whole14 hours and having no time to get into anything. She didn’t even pee in my car during a multi hour drive. Moses likes her, Sophie Does Not. That will take some sorting out. My “last dog” was three dogs ago, thinking I would get out of sheep but sheep seem to keep choosing me. And dogs too. Ironically the name I like “Valla” turns up in several languages. Italian: valley. Old Norse/German: valley, meadow or singled out, chosen. Her name is actually Valda. Not a bad name, meaning warrior, Germanic. I think I’ll call her Valla and neither she or Hubbs (with his hearing) will know the difference.

Coffee is ready. I found a great cough syrup for that annoying dry hacking cough. Kahlua. I sipped Kahlua all weekend, laid up like a big dog and I feel a little better.
You need mullein tea! Or a Bourbon Hot Toddy 🥃

OK the Great Bread Experiment
I make sourdough all the time. Every time I have tried regular bread it ends up a doorstop 90% of the time. I chose sourdough because it always worked for me, I don't need a big ol' stand mixer with a hook, no kneading, it's practically a one-bowl-wonder.
Lately, I've thought I should give the regular bread a try again BUT doing all the same things I do when I make sourdough. Just substitute some rapid yeast (bread machine yeast) a little more flour and water to compensate for what I would use in starter.
Afterall - in cooking they say it's all about the method.
Yesterday I did it. Made both at the same time -- just in case there was a difference in the weather or whatever.
The results ---- it worked! The sourdough has a little more flavor sourdough thing ya' know. But other than that both were amazing. Both made great toast this morning.
As the saying goes - pics or it didn't happen :)

Mixed up. Both about the same.

Regular bread on the left, sourdough on the right. Both
baked at the same time in the same oven. Difference could
be once side of the oven is hotter possibly, the amount of
yeast I used, or God only knows the reason.
FYI I use 50 grams of starter so in the regular loaf I
substituted 2 teas yeast (just a guess), 25 grams flour and
25 grams water.

And finally - after the cut.

Keeping my starter going is easy, but there are times I forget to feed it or have sooo much I need to freeze or toss out. Now that I know I can do bread like this I can relax about keeping the starter going - though I do use it for
a lot of other things, so there's that.
Those are some delicious looking loaves of bread 🤤 I bake with sourdough too but I mill my own flour, the bread turns out a bit more dense than when I used all purpose flour but I enjoy the health benefits of freshly milled wheat berries.

Morning all. We missed the severe weather the past few days but also missed the rain. Cool, breezy and less humidity today. Pupster is fine and frisky and Hoovers up the food like nothing I’ve seen. I will turn the sheep into the catch lane that separates the dog pen and the safe pen today for a meet and greet. All will be separated by a sturdy fence. She has experience but I have a couple of onery ewes I want to supervise contact with. Sophie is full diva mode, not liking pup at all. She is relenting on the constant stinkeye so slight progress. Have a great day everyone.

At work. Dragging. Coffee helping some.
😴
I wound up working 11 1/2 hours yesterday, as I had to set up a physicians meeting, then take minutes. Of course the doc who was needed as chairman ran late in clinic, meeting didn't start until after 4:30.

I'm leaving early on Thursday, not returning until Tuesday!
