Good morning - a day to get things done around here. No pressing trips to town - though perhaps to the PO to pick up a package. Hoping to get the garden beds done today. Six cattle panels await to become arches over some of the beds. Tomato plants 3 Bush Early Girls and a Lucid Gem (purple on top and orange on the bottom - from DDIL). And various seeds. Got to finish a seed order.
Heading to 80s today 🥵
Have a good one.
I used to grow Early Girl, good type.

Have not seen this until now. Thanks for posting this!
Oh yeah!!! Forgot about them -- time for MO folks to get flocks of them <of course no one will get any sleep>.
I thought about them up until neighbors had a flock of them. They constantly came for a visit and roosted in our trees. They left about the time they were going to end up in the freezer. Holy moly they are loud.
You did not mention the name... I am assuming it is theileriosis ? It has been in Va for several years... and is devastating to some cattle... a purebred breeder lost several animals and a bull when it was first detected in Va and it has spread. It can cause abortions, among other things like high fevers and such.... and once they get it, if they get over it, they carry it for life. Usually once they get past the initial phase, they can go on and breed and produce calves .... It has been found in approx 15-16 states.

You can go to the govt USDA website... and type in theileriosis and there is a fact sheet on it..

We had one cow that aborted that tested positive for it... shipped others that we did not test...

The Asian longhorn tick carries multiple diseases... including the Rocky Mountain spotted fever and the Alpha-Gal allergy that I tested positive to both for... but many different species of ticks now carry multiple tick diseases...

It also will infect sheep and goats and other mammals....
This is interesting. Thank you. Looking into it. Need to be sure we keep our woods trimmed up and pastures eaten down enough.

I don't know, but the impact lifted my heels...lol The wind was blowing so hard, I'm sure that contributed.
They're not heavy at all -- including the ones the size of a VW. BUT they are thorn monsters . Tiny thorns that easily break off and stab the living daylights out of you. I had a dog that worked an area were the damn things had traveled through -- took two weeks of poultice and bandages before she could do much. Nasty things.

No, they're not heavy, but they are nasty. It was the wind and being caught off guard...lol Our burn pit is full of them, they blew in. I need to clean up the fence line again, quite a few piled up there too.

Poor pup, yikes! 🙁

Was 87 yesterday, still 81 at 11pm. 78 when I left for work this morning. Decided to air the house, nice weather, ya know? Left a window open about 8". It was gonna rain, just a little, so ok. We had rain mid day, lot of fog after dark. But it had dropped to 36 by 8pm 😱 it was 59 in my living room. Brrrr. Crazy!!! I had dressed for warmer, short sleeved shirt. Thankfully I had left a jacket in my truck a couple weeks ago!! That helped with drive home. It was dark, cold & foggy coming home. 😵‍💫. Slow drive.

So had "lunch/dinner" in front of a room heater at 9pm. Thankful for leftovers, heat & eat!

Wake up to 32-33 in morning & may warm to mid 50s. YES, I still have winter clothes out!!🤣 Brrrrr. Thought winter had gone 😖
