Good morning all. Coffee brewing, blueberry cobbler flavored this time... but I've got some plain'ol Columbian as a backup.
Watching the forecast. Most recent is for up to 3" of snow starting around 9am & going until about 11pm. They say the air is dry so it is supposed to be the powdery stuff & not the clingy, icy stuff that takes down limbs & power lines. 🤞
The gen is still parked next to the house with two 5gal cans of gas. The kitchen is socked with soups & sandwich makins'.
I'm supposed to be driving to work through the worst of it. 🙄 I'll be calling the company's automated weather hotline regularly all afternoon.

Here -- not that far from you @canesisters -- saying begin 1 ish, lasting into Thur morn. Hope it's "dry" stuff, news says the wet stuff -- I'm all electric here. Have a propane heater but, tank now empty. 🥴 Didn't refill since warming trend. Always kero unit & generator if either needed for this event 🤷 oh, big winds coming to the party Thurs. Wet snow & wind = tree limbs on power lines :he

Brine on main roads was happening yesterday. I'm only 1.5 miles off one but no plans to go see clearing🤣. This morn I'm mentally reviewing where & what to preposition for my own ease to make feeding happen for several days! Yeah, the snowing part is easy -- it's the dealing after that's a problem! Heated water tubs already in place, full, just plug in. There's that "please don't lose electric!!" prayer (well water). Will fill the 100 gal tubs this morn, in case I need to dip from. With the 30 & 50 gal ones around, prob 6-700 gal there.

This is not fun. Not normal. Not wanted.:old

Almost 5. Up since 3.

Rained and stormed here, wind blowing temperatures are 32, high of 38. Tonight will be 26, tomorrow high of 40. Not as cold as the rest of y'all and no snow, but it’s miserable to me!
Gulping first cup of coffee, I’ll be out in the dark, caring for sheep, opening gates. Leave by 7, go to @Ridgetop ’s and see all the marvelous things they have done. She is going to ride with me to pick up chicks, then I will drop her off and scoot on back home.
I’ve got 4 heat lamps out in the coop and a barometer. I’ll check temperatures when I go out. I sure hope it’s warm enough for the chicks!

I see I'm not the only one facing freezing precipitation today. Ugh.

Forecast is now for all freezing rain.

Not good.

Now I'm going to start coffee, do a few light outside chores before the mess starts.

I got an idiot neighbor that doesn't live out here who texted me saying he is coming out wondered how the road is and if anyone drove back to where his cabin is. Nope no one has packed the 18 inches of snow down driving on it, we are the only ones back here.
So it's about mid 30's below zero and he is going to try to do it, this is the guy who paid for the rock I put down. I don't think he could buy brains or common sense cause if it was available he could afford it.

Driving home last night found a truck dead on the road with driver still in it, fuel gelled up. Towed him where he wanted to go, try telling him I can fix it, insists on towing it to dealership today. So I get to deal with that this morning, hope he listens and lets me just fix the simple problem, easier than me towing it the last few miles down the interstate.
There is a -45°F windchill with that.

@Baymule. I’d put those chicks inside. I’m west and north of you and it’s much colder and windier than forecasted. High today was supposed to be 35. It’s 19 right now at noon. Very gusty north winds. A new predicted low is now 10. We are hustling around to dot the i’s. Hubbs bought some better hay so he’s tossing Bermuda flakes among the snowflakes.

Right NOW @ 2:00 it's 24 but wind chill for a 14 !!

That's not what the Midwest is getting with - 20 or more but around here, it's as extreme! We just do not get this except every 10 yrs or so. Not liking it.

Winds staying steady all night, so it's a concern to me. They're all in a wind break sheltered barn or shed but it is still cold!! Water bucket in barn has water freezing. That's cold! Yes, it's snowing heavily. Another 6-7 hrs of it expected 🤬 damned weather.

Will go pull out the heavy winter snow boots. 😤
