And it continues to rain, freezing rain, some sleet mixed in. Temperature dropping, why doesn't it turn to snow?

Because the air temps above are not cold enough to make it snow, then as rain it hits the colder lower level and freezes it... Snow has to be "made" in the upper layers....

Mr. Racka is set for cold weather. I left the mats alone, thinking they would be easier to cut if they grew out a bit. Then I took a look at the whole critter. A professional needs to take this on. I contacted the You Tube gal and it looks like I’m on the shear list in April. He’s healthy, eats like a horse. I haven’t noticed any problems with the mats except ugly.

@Baymule. I’d put those chicks inside. I’m west and north of you and it’s much colder and windier than forecasted. High today was supposed to be 35. It’s 19 right now at noon. Very gusty north winds. A new predicted low is now 10. We are hustling around to dot the i’s. Hubbs bought some better hay so he’s tossing Bermuda flakes among the snowflakes.

60 degrees at 4:00 when I got home.

Empty coop.

Party in the house! There’s 80 chicks in there. Food, warm water, heat lamp and they are house chickens. ❤️
