Several years ago I worked for a major retailer. I counted 17 different varieties of Tide detergent. 17! Tide with assorted fragrances, fabric guard, stain demolisher, Tide made specifically on Tuesday. Diapers were the same way. They would come in on pallets, shrink wrapped as if they had been shipped from Mars. And completely mixed up. 4 aisles of diapers. There was a deadline to get them on the shelves and they were always dropped off late. I still wince when I see a package of Huggies or get a whiff of Dreft.

Why so many types & sizes, why are kids needing size 7, why even all the trash this creates? No one is potty training now?
Night time bed-wetters and disabled kids. Although my boys were always in like the 99th percentile until weaning (for both height and weight, no worries, they were proportionate) and all three of them made it into size 6 by 2 or 3. If they had bed wetting issues I'd have sized them up one for night and that would justify carrying the 7's for the one or two families that need it. Those are EXPENSIVE dipes.

(Thank the LORD (seriously) we didn't have any bed-wetters. I did not need that level of extra trauma.)

One of my 5 kids wet the bed for ages.... Kid slept way too deeply.

I always thought cloth diapers would help with that, since the kid would feel the wet. But with that one, it didn't help at all. :idunno We finally did drugs for about 6 months, and then he was fine.

As I remember, I did NOT diaper the kid/bed wetter because I wanted him to feel the wet!!!

So yes, insane level of washing... whatever, feels like forever at the time... but times do change.

In general though, parents no longer parent. And in general kids feel entitled and do not work... so of course less toilet training, and way more diapers.

I use a French press... no filters or paper, just water and coffee grounds.

Cassandra and Dominic still wet the bed due to blood sugar issues. Cassandra at almost 9 yrs old is really embarrassed by it.
That is a new one for me!

With my kids some didn't produce as much of the hormone that changes the way your kidneys filter the blood. That hormone makes it so you don't have to pee as much at night verses during the day. And... the lack of that hormone coupled with the fact that a few of my 5 kids also sleep like rocks! (Seriously, they can roll out of bed and not wake up) made bed wetting an issue.

The drug I gave the one kid, was just that hormone. It turns out, with some kids, if they take it in pill form for a few months, then their body FINALLY starts making enough of it.

I can see exceptions & medical needs...hey adult diapers are there! My mom needed them. $$$ is up there, too. Just seems too much -- 🙄 especially after moving so many for hours! Not only that, those darned things are packed in slippery plastic. Ya can't hang on to them. So glad those 7 stores are done 👍 👍

But really -- as consumers we are being bombarded in so many areas. Aspirin....bottle of 10, 25, 50, 100. Choices, choices. :idunno I see it handling this stuff:he. Thinking, do we need this many choices??? It's increasing to, to fit every pocket. Two sides for everything. 😊. Gave us something to think about.

Looks like this is a common soapbox for all of us!
I keep looking at all the fragrances that are offered, pushed, etc. I mean seriously - it's chemicals that make up those scents (fresh, ocean, whatever else they think will sell) - not the original essential oils that make up the scents and who knows what they do to one after breathing them 24/7 for God only knows how many years. Give me fresh air and pretty flowers any day. I steer clear of all that stuff.

If you want, tell Cassandra that I wasn't able to spend the night with friends or at Girl Scout camp until I was 12. It was UTIs and related issues that was apparently the reason for my wetting issues.
