Dear friend does chicken duties, DS does cat duties.

I went to pick up my car at the airport, there are no cars. They took my reservation but there are no cars. Called car rentals in town, no cars. They suggested I try calling Raleigh car rental agencies, which would be at least a 90 minute drive. Oh, wait. It's Friday afternoon. It's more like a 2 1/2 hour drive. Madness.

I know God's got this, but I am SO frustrated. The only room available at the hotel was a non-refundable. Argh.
:he
So...I now have a rental car! I searched eastward, and found an Enterprise rental about 20 miles away. And they had two cars left...
:yesss:

I started packing the car, and the rains finally came.

I was planning on taking Ron's urn (box), maybe scattering some of his ashes at places we used to go to.

He can sit in the passenger seat.

Day two includes a route through the Delaware Water Gap (think Poconos/Dirty Dancing). It's deeply wooded, lots of wildlife, and there's Dingman's Falls. We stopped there, probably about 15 years ago.

The total trip is 698 miles, one way.

Edited to add a better map.
So you will be traveling what once was called the Ho Chi Min trail... route 209? That is the way I prefer to travel to CT even though it adds an hour plus to the trip where I used to live... DS prefers to go over the Tappan Zee Bridge and up through white plains... but I am old school. Plus going through the Delaware Water Gap is a nice break from interstate driving. Sad that there used to be so many farms and now they are gone... I remember one of the dairies through there many years ago... and the explosion of development outside of the "Water Gap" protected area.
The only good thing for car motorists, they stopped the tractor trailer traffic on it so no more big trucks... but it hurt some of the businesses originally... The Milford Diner was a very very busy place and all the truckers ate there...
Safe travels for you.

That's it, US-22 to PA-33 to US-209, which meets I-84. Years ago Ron and I stopped at Bushkill Falls, which was a BIG tourist trap. We left without paying an exorbinate admission fee. A little farther north was Dingman's Falls, which we enjoyed.

Had a 9:30 appt that made me wait 45 min to be seen🤨😖 blew my nicely timed plans! Now I've done things, just later than -- and now I'm grumpy, reworking the schedule. Hell to get old & impatient. But, hey, don't overbook....or make the late one wait. 🤷

It's hot...you sweat, it doesn't dry because humidity is so freaking high. Your clothes are wet. 😖 We had a hard rain about midnight. Another 1.8" that wasn't needed :barnie

Ok. Got that off my chest! 😁 Life goes on.
I would have been extremely crabby too!

Coffee is ready. Yesterday grazing the sheep went well. When it came time to put them up, I got in the mule. Little Ringo was under the only tree left in the yard, I figured if I tried to walk across the yard to get to the middle field gate, he probably would have challenged me. I drove mule to middle field gate, went around to the middle field night pen, dumped feed in the bunk. Closed up those sheep. Then dumped feed in tubs in front field small night pen and they came charging in. Closed that gate. Unblocked the driveway. Yard looks chewed. I’ll graze them another day next week, then I’ll mow.

Today I’m going to the farmers market, I want some fried green tomatoes. Want to buy some cucumbers too, to make pickles.

The heat is getting to me. Yesterday I fed dogs, then finished feeding sheep, then watered them-without a cool down break. I was as wet as if someone hit me with the water hose. I went straight to the shower. Still have August to go, I hope September is cooler. This heat and humidity is exhausting.

Geesh -- August already. This year has slipped on by so fast. Next month we'll be thinking "winter prep" and I'm not ready to go there yet. I'm ready for the oppressive heat to leave tho! But temps today are suggested to be 77/62 😊 I'm good with that. Even looking like it may hang there a couple more days! YES!!!

ETA...I've now got 2 broody hens!! :he Need to decide...give them eggs or not. Chicks really not needed. :idunnothey're insisting they wanna be moms. Hate to disappoint but that golf ball isn't fertile.

Right now at 5:45 AM it is 74F and 93% humidity. It’s making moving to the mountains look like a good idea. My son complained that it’s getting chilly in New Mexico, it’s 50F in the mornings. He thrives in the heat, wears flame retardant long sleeve shirts with T-shirt underneath all year around. Those flame retardant shirts are thick heavy material that does not breathe.

Good morning. Cool and drizzly to start the trip. A brief rest stop, sip of coffee, and I'm on the road again.
