This is off subject of the memorial service for Charlie Kirk...
But, some of the members on here will remember a poster called "Greybeard".... he got me on the Cattle Today site with like minded farmers/ranchers... He eventually stopped posting here, and then a couple years ago he sold his farm and wound up in the suburbs.... he said his wife had lived in the country on the farm and his cattle/working/ all that... it was "her turn" .... he has had some health issues...but overall is doing okay except I know he misses the cattle but not all the work...
He signed up for the "Honor Flight Austin".... there they take veterans to Washington and Arlington... it is to celebrate and THANK those that served... I knew nothing about this until he posted about it... it is done all over the country I guess... It is NOT paid for by any government dept... and I understand it is one of the most wonderful things these vets ever experience...
His trip was this past weekend... One of the members on CT sent out a request privately to any and all members to send a card because they do a "mail call" for these vets... sort of a remembrance of how much mail call meant to them when they were in the service... Thanking him for his service and other things that would mean something to them.
Naturally as a CT member, I sent in a card.
I also sent a separate card, and signed it from members of BYH.... the ones I knew that had been on here when he was ... and said it was also from all the members that he gave advice to over the years...
Because it was being done as a surprise... I just did it myself instead of announcing it... I don't know if he monitors this site anymore... so did not want to take any chances.
If anyone on here that remembers him, wants to sent him a message... you can go on the CattleToday.com website... and the thread is; " I got a phone call today and am as excited as a kid in a candy store" ....
It sounds like he really was touched by the whole experience... and the cards overwhelmed him... he said he would have to write more later when he could do so and be able to see the keyboard without tears in his eyes...
Typical crusty old farmer... but someone who is very proud to have been of service to his country, and a farmer also...
