You got that right.

Yeah - those Highland cattle are in surge of popularity because they are "cute". DIL would like to have some - told her we've got room, but it would be her thing. Though she's a tad busy with a new baby.Yes, send a letter out to home and it might get a reply in 2 weeks if they didn't take the chopper down carrying it or hit a snag from some other combat related issue.
On another note, today's outing was a bust. I think besides me of the other 25 were there maybe only 2 or 3 others might belong there. One was with a fake service dog of the 3, the rest were with a cane or pushing density with age that would rival most here.
Great animals, just a novelty at most that might take off, but you better have deep pockets at $6k plus a heifer. Bison are cheaper and more survivalist than them, in fact when he got snow he has to feed them, bison would push snow away and find food.
So I think bison is it, not highland cattle. Just not seeing usefulness beyond meat from them.

I think it's more lean than beef. There are restaurants in Montana, Wyoming and probably other places that sell beefalo burgers. I think they add beef to kick up the fat content. I would assume grass fed beef would be close to the same.Yeah - those Highland cattle are in surge of popularity because they are "cute". For what it's worth - I've heard or read somewhere that bison meat is healthier than beef (I didn't research the claim so there's that). Bison meat is a big thing, at least around here in So Cal. There was (may still be) a ranch with bison. I watched the fencing go in - and wondered what the heck they were going to get. Then the bison showed up. BIG CRITTERS for sure!
That's aThanks @farmerjan for the update on greybeard. I logged in and read his posts. I'm thrilled for him. It's been a long time since I was on CattleToday. A real long time. I need to spend some time there. I have plans for a half dozen heifers or steers after I get my back field fenced to practice managed intensive grazing. It would improve my fields in ways that sheep cannot due to them being so lightweight. I've discussed it with my son, he is in favor of it and would buy the cattle. So we'll see how that goes, but first I have to clean up the back, move and set up the two 40' shipping containers and get them blocked up, clean the fence row, might not get that done this winter, put up sheep and goat wire fence $$$$$$$ and then go get some cows. Eh........Yeah, that's a lot for a 70 year old lady, but I'm a feral crazy idiot and it keeps me out of jail.
Yep and they even allow tea drinkers like me...lolGood morning! Does anyone still serve coffee here? BYC is closing down this morning and I miss my morning coffee partners.
I don't have any herds, just feral cats, squirrels and chickens.![]()
Oh that's great! I always switch to tea after a cup or two of coffee. I love both. Lately I have become a green tea drinker, but traditionally it has been Earl Grey for me. Oh, and I love Good Earth original tea.Yep and they even allow tea drinkers like me...lol️
Welcome!
