I am huge into high quality wool socks. I like wool hiking or skiing socks with compression at the arch.

They come in a variety of different weights.

I love hats... WARM, proper wool hats! I have a jillion, because I go out with a hat, heat up with work, take off hat... and... where is the hat??? :idunno

I like the longjohns that are made out of fancy whatever synthetic that say "temperature regulating" since those are easier to keep on. Otherwise I go to some person's house, or the store, and have to fight the urge to strip down to my skivvies. If you are going out, to STAY OUT for a long time, no in and out or errand stuff... then it is easier to stay dressed.

And yes, hands are always an issue. I TRY to kick ice out of water buckets with my feet, because I never remember to bring out waterproof gloves!
That's a really great point. Same thing we do here but more extreme and I'm not sure I'd have thought about more than it just being cold. 🥶😂
Waterproof gloves. Need to look into those. Great idea and sounds like every jacket pocket needs a pair or two so I don't forget them. 😂
Oh! @RR Homestead also up here people always say "cotton kills", it is very chilling when wet. Wool, silk, or plastic whatever will keep you warm when wet.
That's interesting! Good info since pretty much everything we own is cotton. Time to go shopping! 🤣

You will find you will have more and better choices in MO simply because they are more acclimated to the weather... so more likely to carry cold weather stuff.

Plain old fashioned waterproof dishwashing gloves are a little heavier than some other options...
good for the getting ice out of buckets/waterers.

If you have electricity, there is heated water buckets as options, and different heated waterers or bases for the chickens. Personally, if it is going to be really cold, I use the black rubber tubs or buckets, and dump at night... Take the automatic waterers out and put away for warmer weather... The animals are NOT going to die without a drink in the middle of the night... and they will appreciate the not frozen water you give them in the morning... The black rubber ones will not crack and freeze like regular 5 gallon type buckets.

Yes "cotton kills" is the saying... ESPECIALLY if wet. But layered over long johns or even silk underclothes, it is not bad unless you get wet. I like my flannel lined jeans... and don't get too hot because they are not "body hugging" like long johns. My legs get cold.... always have since I was a kid.
We get some pretty cold temps here in the valley with mountains on both east and west side... Has already hit 21 for a low, but that was a "preview of winter to come"... it is back up to the 30's to 60's.... pretty normal again... it will slowly just not get as warm during the day. Actually been right around 70 the last several days.
Good advice to watch the weather forecast for where you are going... see the monthly averages and all that...
It will probably be a more moist cold, which will make it feel colder than a dry cold...

Coffee is ready. @Ridgetop and husband are going home today, coming back tomorrow or Tuesday. They are going home for the truck, it was in the shop. Also their trailer to load up on pallets. There are a couple of places nearby that have lots of pallets. I'll be calling in the morning to see which place is the better option.

I know it isn't Starlink satellites as I have seen those before and these didn't move. Cluster of about 20 something lights lined up at an angle in the northwestern sky not moving, never moved as I was driving through Glendive, MT last night. Stayed there 15 minutes and slowly faded away.

Space aliens. Don't worry. If you get abducted, they'll toss you back.
