I should have gotten a better picture of her. My brother called yesterday and asked how many dogs I had and boggled that I still had Sophie. If she can’t guard sheep (abused dog hates sheep and goats) why did I still have her? Because she lays down by my side of the bed to help me get to my feet although I don’t need help right now. Because she’s in the front yard watching the sheep and telegraphs barks to the in-pasture LGDs. Because she has a sense of humor. She has a shrill bark she sends to the coyotes at dusk and they mock her. She hands it back and the insults fly til I yell for quiet. Because she’s a good babysitter, see below. Because she’s a good girl.

Weather -- ah yes, the forecast frenzy for us was and so far is just a lot of hot air. Hmmm 🤔 close to literally hot air - warmer than normal. The "big one" that was supposed to hit Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with 4.35 inches gave us under 3/4 inch. I'm happy with that - gives the ground a chance to absorb it. We're supposed to get just over half an inch sometime today. Looking at the clouds doing an old fashion (and much more accurate) guess - we'll get a little wet today - maybe. We did have some pretty rough winds here. No damage. Places where trees should have been trimmed took a lot of damage in branches and trees down. One tree did unfortunately come down on a person in San Diego :(. Before we moved to the ranch we had a lot of eucalyptus trees - when it was windy we stayed clear of them.
No flooding in our county, there is in other areas - esp LA area getting hit - of course the fires there early this year have a lot to do with that (gov and mayor have not let hardly anything happen in those areas to prevent things). Media would have the world think the whole of CA is underwater and it isn't 🤔 but I guess it is financially :th:lol:

Heads Up Midwesterners!

Trying to remember to pay closer attention to these now. Have followed the warnings for years in KY where a dear friend lives. Now I need to pay attention for our own home.
When I saw the forecast I was thinking about @RR Homestead heading west from Missouri.
Thank you for thinking of me. That means a lot. :)🙏 :hugs
Yeah, such an unpredictable time of year to be on the roads. Praying she gets back safely.
Boy you can say that again. Thank you so much! :hugs

Hello all!
I am officially back home. What a trip. 4,000 miles in 7 1/2 days/nights. 2 1/2 days at the new home. The rest was traveling. First load is complete. The way back I took a different route than i'd been in previous trips. MUCH better roads. Faster speeds. Less traffic. Only shocker was snow squalls which I've never experiences before. So thankful I left a day earlier than I was originally thinking I would leave. Today was brutal in several places that I traveled yesterday. Very long but quick exhausting trip. Time to start repacking the trailer for another run. Sellers are the sweetest folks you'll ever meet. They helped me unload the first load. Made sure I had hot food. No one will be there for the next load so it may get interesting. While staying at the new place I've found things that need attention and repairs. Very odd feelings all the way around. Really felt weird hearing the quiet. Been so long it's almost unnerving. It will take time to calm the nerves.
I'm beyond exhausted. Going to hit the shower and bed. Managed to get home before DH went to work. Struggling to stay awake. Praying I can get some solid sleep tonight.
Thank you so much to everyone for the thoughts, prayers and support! They are so greatly appreciated! :hugs

Coffee is ready. I have a cute little ewe nestled down next to me in my recliner. Full tummy, she is taking a nap. New mom, didn't clean her off, lavished all her attention on the second one. I moved her to a jug when I got home from church, but the little one was too weak to suck, limp as a dish rag and cold. I wrapped her in a towel and a heating pad and held her all afternoon. I dribbled a few drops at a time in her mouth, just wasn't very hopeful. I put her in a dog crate when I did evening chores, expecting to come in and find her dead. I picked her up and she gave out a squall. I fed her an ounce of colostrum and held her, fed her until 11 last night. In between, she tottered around on unsteady tiny toes, followed Carson, surely he had milk! This morning when the alarm went off, so did she. Pictures on my lambing thread.

@RR Homestead I am so glad you are back, safe. Now get some rest and pack up for another trip. :love

Poor night...to bed early, awakened 2x, up then tossed, finally got a few hrs sleep, up at 9. 😵‍💫 It's gonna be a sleepy one. Maybe a nap will happen. It's a warm 63 right now. Dropping to 30 tonight. I don't see anything normal for/about today

I've had one cup. Need way more. Can barely think beyond the moment I'm in. Not even looking for a list. An hr & I'll be functional 👍

@Baymule 🤞🙏 for the lamb. You're giving your all :love

A good night's sleep - yay! Will be heading out to graze again. Temps today 46-71; 46 is normal-ish low and 71 in way high out of the normal range.
Thinking of weight lambs today. Gotta get that done and rain is forecast  for Wed-Fri.

@RR Homestead glad you made it back with no troubles. I've done the coast to coast by myself with dogs -- but I was driving a motorhome (bringing all the comforts of home with me ;)).
