Winter has arrived. 39 to start 62 for the high. Much more close to normal for us. Looks like I've got two ewes who may lamb -- they're looking BIG - but not really bagging up (so far). It's a mother and daughter - both black. Cap and Target. Should be fun to see what they have. That's IF and WHEN of course!

Morning all! Made it over the pass just fine yesterday. Roads were bare and wet. Had some really fine snow coming down at the summit, but that was it. Going to a hardwood store today to look at lumber for the cabinet DH wasn't going to build...lol We stopped at the tile store yesterday, almost changed our mind on the tile we're planning to use, but decided it's still our favorite, except for the floor tile, I have my eye on something a little different, we'll see. We won't be buying the supplies until tomorrow before we head home. Don't want things sitting in the back of the pickup overnight at the hotel. Not sure what all we're doing today.

Getting ready to head down for breakfast...I brought honey for my tea!

Have a beautiful day everyone! 💗

It's Friday and I am so relieved.
I have nothing else to say
DD is sub teaching this year... She says the same thing 🤣

Coolish at get up but close to 70 again later today. I'm just waiting for the cold to hit -- hard!! Yeah, gonna pay for this reprieve, I just know it .

Soooo....out to check new arrivals. They were up & bouncing at 7 am. Need to get them moved to another barn. Their mom is giving me a look of desperation with kids to tender again. 😁 Shocker. Well, too much play time 5 months ago 😶

Walked across the pasture to find the lamb was a hen.
Nice big single.
Twin Racka X’s.
Back to work again. This is my Third retirement. The bright side- afterbirth.

Good afternoon all!
New calf is HUGE. He walked past our burn barrel and the top of his back is at the top of the barrel. 😂 He did great first nursing. There was a little chaos with the 2 brutes leaving a quarter for the new calf but all in all it went well. Mom cow did better than she's done in previous grafts. Got a call just a bit ago that another bull was born this afternoon. Yay! I'll pick him up tomorrow. That should do her for the rest of lactation. She's gotten a bit more drawn down than I prefer so I'm not going to push it with her. Hopefully green grass gets some nutrients sooner than later and she can put a little weight back on. With less draw on her that should help too. These two that are on her now should have already been weaned.
Got the two remaining sheep processed, cut and most of it packaged his evening. Big job. Just have a bit more meat to package up tomorrow and a second roaster of bones to start after the first round is done. I could not believe how much fat was on these sheep. Long overdue to go but DH was attached to them. Moving has made the decision far easier and suspicions of dental issues developing which were confirmed today. Still trying to find a home for two pygmy goats otherwise they are freezer bound as well. Just the two sheep gone will lighten the feed bill though. Happy about that. One step closer to moving.
DH worked on getting some stuff ready to go to the dump and or go up for sale. Mowed a little bit. We are trying to get back to making another load to go to the new place. I think at the moment the plan is he's going to take a few weeks off of work (plenty of vacations since we don't use it) and he'll go to the house and do some needed work. Do some house stuff like repair the water heater and a fan on the heater as well as do some fencing to prep for cattle coming. He's not sure yet if he will drive a load out or not. Might just fly out and fly back. At least we are working on a plan. I can't leave when the next milking heifer calves so it would be a good opportunity for him to go and me stay here and hold down the fort.
Feral kitty is healing well from what we can see. Eating and drinking well. DH is still petting her quite a bit. She doesn't think she likes it but doesn't say anything. Just accepts her fate. 😂 Hopefully she gets more used to it.
Time to make supper. Then feed the calves again. 36* out right now. I think it's going to freeze again tonight. We now call this CA cold. 🥶 😂 Looking at buying a heated jacket for our new home.
Hope y'all have a great weekend!

@RR Homestead 36 is cold in east Texas too!

I've been up over an hour, bottle fed Tinkerbelle and Mabelline, put a Depends on them and let them run a play-and pee. The dog crate was a mess, I wadded up the potty pads, trashed them, cloroxed the tray, wiped it down and put in new potty pads. I put them back in it for their nap.

Now--COFFEE FOR ME!!

I pick up my 2 youngest granddaughters today, but late afternoon. I'll be late coming home (by livestock standards) so I'll feed early.
