Home from dropping off the steer. Awfully quiet here already. Guy who lives on site said he was confused because he didn't see someone in the load out area but hear someone screaming. Yep. Heard us coming down the road he was screaming so loud non stop. He immediately understood why I brought him in tonight.
Hopefully I can get up early enough to make it to the sale for calves then wait for this one to go through and hopefully get a little better price on him from our buyer. He's a tiny bit smaller than he wanted so we'll see. I don't care. I'm so relieved he's gone. I think I'm going to move the other steer over to the weanling pasture and go ahead and get him weaned. We are low on butter and out of milk and cream so I'm thinking I'll just wean this beast now and milk the excess while the new calves get to where they can keep up with her production. Catch up a little on supplies for us. In less than 2 weeks now our next milk heifer will be calving so I'll have to start milking her at that point. Hopefully just switch from our cow to the heifer and turn the cow and her two calves out to pasture and let them be a family. Hoping to pick up another calf or two for the heifer so I can get back to moving sooner than later. Start her off with milking (training) and her calf(s) and then when I'm ready for a load to the house let the calves keep up. That's the hope/plan at the moment. Seems it keep changing.
Mostly done with chores for the night already. Think i'll work on packing a few things then feed the calves a little early and get to bed. That way I can feed in the morning a bit early and get to the auction.
Hope y'all have a great rest of the night!
