My house phone charger is dead. I have the car charger, but car must be running for it to work. But my trusty 2004 truck does not have such aggravating requirements, so I can keep phone charged. I'll go to the dollar store today in Apple Springs and get another craptastic charger like this one. Then I can use the reciept to take the first one back.

Nope. Just nope. 🥶 🥶 🥶 🥶 🥶 🥶 🥶
Have a "good" neighbor on the next road over that lives in NY, he only comes out 4 times a year a most. He actually made a flight out here yesterday just to experience this weather. While he is gone I babysit his house amongst other places I have keys to. I can actually drive around out here hitting Starlink satellites and damn near not lose service cause of all the people I know

Forecasted low is -12 for tonight... Might need to bring a parka and insulated pants to work.

Kid free work day today. And we only have to be there 6 hours plus the lunch they provide. There's a basketball game tonight, and I have more than 6 hours of work that needs to be done, but at least I can go in a bit later. Oh and I can actually go get coffee from a coffee shop in town that opens at the same time I try and get to work.

Stay warm y'all!

I grew up on the high plains. Winters were respectably cold. Occasional bouts of sub zero. Hilariously I’ve worn far more cold weather gear here in Texas since then. I became a heat shedding critter and shifting metabolic gears gets tougher as I age. Presently 46 degrees, fog and light rain.

@SageHill We were at a campground in Desert Center, when our phones went off on Monday. About 5 seconds later, the coach rocked back and forth, but not violently.

I've been thinking of my friends from here in the winter path's way. I'll be hoping that you and your herds will be OK, yes even chickens.

@drstratton Hubs had a salt water tank for many many years. He tried to prevent his 125 gal sw tank from sloshing too much during the '89 Loma Prieta earthquake!

Yikes. Did he have any success with that? Any problems with leaks after? Mine was 75g with a 40 gal breeder sump.

I'm mainly concerned about my flocks, in open hoop coops. I bought extra straw, will toss some in the coops. They do have wind breaks, and a dry draft free roost.
they will be fine. I do find that sudden dips into cold weather will cause them to stop laying.

if you use small water pans, it is best to bring them in at night, and then bring them back out in the morning.

Higher protein feed is nice. I feed mine 20% protein in the winter.
