Temps crashed about 90 minutes ago. 35 to 25 degrees, oddly no wind just suddenly colder. Sheep in barn with hay and water. Ghost became one but that was expected and she didn’t have any distress. Maremmas apparently slept outside in spite of snug, dry doghouses. Leading horses to water I guess. They had a good breakfast. Have to watch the well house and bottle lamb space heaters. Roads have begun to freeze. We’re as ready as we can be.

I;m sorry about Ghost. Sounds like she went out quietly and well loved.

Good morning. I woke up at 3 AM to thunder and hard rain. It's 28 degrees. Of course the first thing I had to do was feed Tinkerbelle and Mabelline, clean the dog crate and put down new potty pads. Water is off, but I have plenty in big pots, gallon jugs and pitchers. The south is getting hammered from Texas to New York.

We haven't had a hot water heater here in the past 7 years

Ten below zero with a high of 8°F today.

Pipes freezing is my problem. Even with a warm house and drips

below 20 degrees you should switch from a drip to stream. A tiny stream but a stream, with a well insulated house or not. I keep a 5 gallon bucket in the tub and kitchen sink, to carry out in the morning, so I'm not putting it all down the drain.

It's daylight and it is white with ice outside. I still have power. A few of the sheep are up and about, eating hay. Most of them are not and probably think those few are idiots.
car and truck are covered with ice. Class at church was cancelled, with church to start at 10:30. Ummmm, no. Only place I'm going is outside to do chores and back inside.

45 out here, still dark butcher will be here to get lambs in about 30 min.
Time to go sort -- in the dark??!! YIKE -- all chutes, gates and pens were set up yesterday. Think I'll wait until there's at least a hint of light.

Power is still on, coffee brewed.

It's 28° and misting. Everything is covered in a glaze of ice. It looks wet, but is ice.

I was able to pry up the stair treads to get down safely.

Feral cats fed, chickens fed, ice in watering tubs broken up, dog walked.

I moved the plastic over my turnips, see the ice?

That's on top of everything.

I'm staying in until the temperature rises enough to unfreeze the ice coating.

Yes, it's coffee time!! of course!

Not much snow -- I'm on the cusp of ok/very bad weather lines. Heat from Atlantic does influence the coastal areas. It's not over!!!! But so far an inch of snow with icier crust. Rains anticipated. 20* temps will make an ice rink everywhere -- esp roads.

Happy to have power on. Happier still to be hoping it won't get as bad as hyped....but was possible, until the systems shifted.

Now I'm psyching myself for chores. Animals are still in their barns/sheds, awaiting room service
