Coffee is ready.

@Mini Horses you were selected by a suicidal kamakazi deer. Sorry about all the dents and the tail light. Duct tape the light back in place and sport the dents with painted on bandaids. Be proud you survived the attack!

@RR Homestead You may own the tank. I own mine, it came with the place. I can call any company I want. Ask the previous owners. I use a company that has a 75 gallon minimum purchase. I have a gas stove, hot water heater and the small propane heater that I use. If you have gas central heat, it will use more and if power is off, it won't come on. Ask questions about the gas log fireplace, it might do in a pinch. Or you can buy a propane heater and have the gas company run a line from the tank to a valve inside the house. It would be cheaper to run than the central heat because it won't require electricity. Glad your DH made it back safe!

@Margali what a close call! With all the light switches and other opportunities for the gas to ignite, it's a wonder it didn't blow up.
I will ask about that. The previous owners didn't say anything about renting it come to think about it. I will ask when I call. I will definitely be asking about a line from the tank. I didn't know that was a possibility. Thanks! As I told DH just because the previous owners only had 1 brief power outage and never had to go to the hidey hole while they lived there doesn't mean we wont be out of power AND in the hidey hole in the first months of being there. That's how we roll.
Gas cooking is SO much better than electric.
I'm looking forward to it. Sounds like I've been missing out for years. 😁
I've been on propane since almost forever. Not bad. As for the igniter -- I know that when the power is out here I can still use the cook top I just have to provide the start with a flame (I use the same bic lighter stick I use for gopher bombs). I actually tried it one time the power was out.
As for the tank -- there are usually options to buy or rent - at least it's that way out here. Natural gas is not an option - it's either propane or electric.
Good to know! Thank you! Do you recommend buying the tank if possible or is it best to rent one?
Sadly...the annoying damage 🫤
Major bummer! Hope you can get it pulled out and relatively fixed easily. Not sure about that truck but on mine we removed the fender liner and was able to pop a dent out but mine wasn't double walled so I'm not sure on yours. Really glad you are ok.

Good afternoon all!
Coffee time.
Made DH a pasta salad. Been a long time since I've made it for him. Trying to use up a lot of stuff from the pantry. Will replace it when we are finally home. Really giving me anxiety using up so much food without replacing it. Guess it's all part of the moving process.
Doctored the chronic calf again today. He's about out of options at this point. Thrown everything possible at him. I really do not enjoy dairy cows/calves. There's only one more drug that's extremely expensive that we can try on him and then some. I'm concerned it's now going to be an ongoing issue with him and he will never be better. Will give him another week then make a decision from there I guess. These crazy storms then sudden freezing and soon to be more "warmer" flooding storms are not helping the poor guy.
Not much else yet to report I don't think. Just trying to get a few things done around here and figure out our next move plan. Once DH is up and "alive" as he calls it we'll probably go over a plan.
Really enjoying the camera's up at home. Never thought I'd say that but I think it's a cross of reminding us of the future visually while unhappy here and knowing things are ok there while we can't be there to check on things.
Y'all have a great evening! :hugs

Why I hate to drive at night!

About 1/4 mile from home, a damned deer ran into my truck!! 🤬 Skid marks on truck from door to just in front of rear tire, big dent there and it ripped the rear tail light out as it slid on off -- apparently! Driving along, a big whap and looked at side mirror to see light hanging there at rear. Stopped. Placed light back in place ( it'll need reconnecting to body but works). Surprised deer wasn't in the truck bed!

Turned & drove back to see if it was laying along road...didn't see one but no doubt it's out there hurt/ dead.

Certain it wasn't insured....but I'm not covered for it either. Annoying! Might be able to suction dent out 🤷
Had one did that to a semi RV I was driving in Washington state on the western side of the mountains. Daylight though, stopped and got out it was knocked on the other side of the road, I grabbed rifle and didn't realize someone stopped in jacked up diesel truck til I turned back towards the deer hearing screeching tires taking off. Guess I scared him. Shot the deer, threw it in the rig and went on.

Not sure where this thread is - I got lost
All depends on the costs of the rental, when/if you change companies, etc. We've done both. Some companies out here put you on a schedule, others just check occasionally. We've run empty twice at the old house - not happy campers esp when they say we'll try to fit you in.

My dh's coworker was arrested during his shift. He hit a deer, took it home, and didn't report it to the state (SC). They found out, came and got him at the plant. I don't see the logic behind that law.

We aren't allowed to take any animals we hit. For a state that "prides" itself on being all about recycling etc. it has always blown my mind they'd rather let a carcass rot and haul it off instead of feeding people.
Crazy someone must have reported him.

Woke up at 2 something, got up at 3 something. Had my coffee, dark outside, phooey.

@RR Homestead I'm starting to use homeopathic remedies on my sheep. So far, I like the results. I'm using a worm remedy that is working great for the lambs and most of the ewes, but if the ewe has a heavy load, not so great. I lost 3 ewes to worms that nothing was helping, not even different wormers. But at least my lambs aren't dropping dead at 2 months old this year. Lambs haven't had time to acquire immunity to parasites yet. It looks so far that this remedy is holding off the worms, all my lambs look good and are healthy. Last spring was horrible. I lost 11 out of 31 lambs, even working with a vet using her protocol. I only kept 7 ewe lambs, took the rest to auction. They might have survived, but were pathetic scrubby little things. It's getting so that the parasites have immunity to the chemical wormers even though I don't have monthly run-them-through-the-chute-and-worm-them-all mentality.

I'm also using a respiratory remedy. I had rams break out and chase heavy bred ewes in 100 degree heat. They were ready to drop dead by the time I got home. They got snotty noses, heavy breathing and no amount of antibiotics touched it. Then I got the respiratory remedy. 2 applications and snotty nose is gone, breathing back to normal. That remedy might be good to use before and after moving your cattle, for shipping fever. Looking at the cattle brochure I got, it has a shipping formula, Travel Stress Relief.

There is also a scours relief.

This might be worth looking into. I'm using the method where I mix some of the remedy with a half gallon of distilled water, in a one gallon pump up sprayer, shake it up to mix it and spray in their nose and mouth.
