I find for cakes and fancy baked goods measuring is very important. But I have found that for bread it doesn't matter that much. Without carefully following the recipe, you will probably still get bread... just maybe not the kind of bread you were aiming for.

I've never tried making bread. We made cookies, cakes etc... since kids. I've always said when cooking or grilling recipes are merely suggestions, when baking the measurements are there for a reason. To me any change (especially uneducated change) of baking powder or baking soda can make a huge difference.
My MIL claims that she wants to be a baker and have her own bakery. She changes recipes to suit her imaginary whims. Even cookies are terrible. Her kitchen (whole house) is dirty enough I really want to tell not to even bring things for the kids, from that dirty mess. My house is not neat and tidy but that's ...........

I had a bread machine way way WAY back. Made bread in it for YEARS -- all through DS's school years. It finally gave up the ghost. Then I worked on it to get it going again - and did!! Used it for years and years again. It was sooo nice to set it up and wake up to the smell of fresh bread.
Now I make my own without the machine. Super easy, I weigh the flour and water, measure the yeast and salt and that's it. Used to be sourdough but I let the starter die (still have a little dried) - but tweaked the sourdough recipe to use yeast from a jar.
Cooking is more a throw it together, taste add more of this or that, baking - gotta have proportions right so not so much add this and that (though I do sometimes).
Looking at a day of weed whacking (actually weeks of it as it will be practically the entire ranch). We're at a point where the foxtails are drying and becoming dangerous.
OH and gas prices - I'll have to look (afraid to actually) as it was approaching 4.50 in January. CA sucks.

I don't want to buy a scale, I don't want to weigh my ingredients in grams, I'm a stick-in-the-mud who wants to use the measuring cups and spoons that my mother did, and that I have utilized for all my life, no offence intended.

DITTO.... any weight measurements are going to be in American/English..... pound, ounce, etc...gallons, quarts and pints.... and cups and measuring spoons... If I lived in Canada or Australia I would do as they do... but I don't. May be fine for more precise measuring of some things...
Our farm fences are in feet, lengths, and RODS, miles....not meters...
