Been sick with pneumonia for several days. A little better today but a long way to go. Hubbs came home ? days ago with a cold. He got better, I was coming down with something. He left me with the ranch for a week- business trip. Chores got done but barely. Sophie ate a rabbitgophergodonlyknows and left a 💩💩mess in the master bedroom/ bathroom. A Racka ewe had a tiny baby (healthy and nursing), Caddo, Sophie and Moses went on walkabouts. The day Hubbs was due back I sat on the sofa, my breath doing the bubble and squeak routine, wondering what else might happen when I saw smoke rolling out of the woods north. One spot, then more. (Weather warned fire danger with all the trimmings). 911 told me it was a controlled burn. Wish they would have, oh I don’t know, notified me by one of the numerous ways possible, given flames were just across the two lane highway. Smoky this morning (3 days later) but other than some smouldering deadsters I think it’s all done over there. Wishing for rain.

figured it was a controlled burn, but it sure makes one go uh oh - If there was a place perhaps online to see where controlled burns are scheduled it sure would help. But then I guess the arsonists would use it and all he// would break loose.

The fire situation prompted several thoughts about fire responses and evacuating. A couple of gates are in order as well as eyeballing alternative routes in general. I feel remiss in not taking care of it sooner.

Pneumonia stinks. Rest is what makes one better, sooner.

If you have a smart phone download the "Watch Duty" app. It's the only way I stay sane during fire season anymore. You can see the fires going or planned. It will tell you if it's a prescribed burn or not. How big the fire is, evacuation areas etc.

We thought we were well covered until we had a fire on our property. Started by the power company of course. We didn't plan well enough for the power being out while needing to fight a pasture fire. There wasn't time to bring out the generator and get it running to provide power to the well to fight the fire. We built a tanker trailer after that. I was so thankful we were as prepared as we were. Even with the lack of water we had enough fire extinguishers and defensive space to keep the fire from our house/barns/vehicles etc. I always encourage people to think of as many angles as possible as we missed the above one by a mile when it came time to need it.

Oh yeah -- I live by that ap in fire season. Sometimes it takes awhile for fires to get listed there. I also have PulsePoint. I'd say we're not in fire season yet - but then the last couple weeks PulsePoint has been alerting some. It'll be an early season I guess.

Yep it really does. I’m tired of the bizarre noises when I breathe. Snap, crackle, pop. Kittens. Kookaburra bird. The queen from Aliens. The queen from a standard beehive (cue @drstratton). Lethargy punctuated with bouts of coughing. Yep I’m ready to be over this mess.
