Coffee anyone ?

My brain was glad I set so many alarms this morning, so I knew how long I had left to sleep.
Ran 8 miles, eating breakfast now and then heading into work. Weather is considering returning to winter. Kinda weird, but also part of living at this altitude I think.
I really should be leaving for work right now. I am sure I have stuff to do when I get there.

runs off to CalFire to see the fire map...

Bay, if you have her physical address, feel free to pm me.

If she's in CHES-01, shes under mandatory evac orders. Altho the fire is quite a bit aways, and as of this morning is 15% contained (I don't know where...), its still prudent of CalFire to make her area mandatory.

Part of her area is in standby mode LFD-0471. This means she's on level 2 evac. Be ready be prepared. Wait for the call.

You see, if we are right about the Hidden Hills, she's in either of these zones.

Oh - just mapped it from the most east southern edge. Again if in Hidden Hills, she is 8 - 12 miles from the edge. Not great, but not horrible.

We all pretty much live by the genasys project maps and ap as well as Watch Duty. I'm in SDC-0390
Typically the letter refer to the county - SDC=San Diego County. The app is location based so if you happen to be travelling into an evac warning/etc you are notified. It's kind of a way of life here with the number of fires we get. All that said - my county rocks in jumping on things right away.

Good afternoon all. Two pleasant surprises today. A ram lamb put himself up with the other boys. Not sure how but I’ll take it. One of this year’s ram lambs has turned out to be a Racka. I thought he was a PDS because of his coloring and shorter fleece. But I noticed his horns are starting to spiral. He’s on the small side but catching up. I’ll try for a pic at feed time. We got an inch and 3/4 of rain yesterday. Hubbs saw a sow and 4 or 5 piglets cross the lower driveway. Explains the barkathon lately. Another day in paradise.

Time for some target practice on those pigs.

Congratulations on the ram! 💗

Are apple crabs salt water or fresh water crabs? Do they taste like apples?
Ha!!! I totally forgot I was going to reply to this!

Apples are apples, and crabapples are tiny little apples. Apple crabs are a cross between the two, and their apples are medium-small. They are super hardy.

We're doing dress up days at work this week, and today they asked us to dress country. Let's just say I'm going all out

So...WHAT does that mean to you? Barn boots and covered in horse manure?

Way back in the dawn of time... my high-school had a dress up day for the seniors. We were told to dress in the profession we hoped to have when we grew up. I showed up in ratty boots, my work clothes with a big very beat up cowboy hat, and an old leather sheathed machete that was set up to be worn across your back.

One guy came to school with a rifle...

I'm getting some sleep, I slept 8 1/2 hours. It was storming yesterday evening, I brought Tatli in and put her in the dog crate. She slept like a rock too. She is not understanding this coffee thing....

Check out the South Poll cattle. www.southpoll.com
Thanks Baymule. :) We've been looking at them fairly heavily for a while. DH is pretty interested in them. My concern is they are red first off and is there a good market for them without selling "registered" shown cattle. I've not seen how they do sale wise other than a few adds online. Doesn't show me what they actually sell for. We've thought about reaching out to some of the main breeders for more information. We've been there done that with registered Angus, Aberdeen and Gelbvieh over the years. Never paid off for us.
@RR Homestead I understand the hard work breeding to get some nice animals... years of decisions and dedication to making what you got, into better, and something that you call "front pasture" cattle, not the ones you put on the back 40.... and we have enough of them. But our heifers are much nicer than some of what we started with. Years of keeping the best.
Sad to say, this may be the final push to get you guys to get done and get moved too.... LOOKING FORWARD and moving forward... Get DONE and get GONE to greener pastures.

Since we have not had to totally liquidate, it has not hurt to send some nice animals to the sale... Yeah, some individual ones occasionally make you say "maybe I should have kept her"...but when we do send some now, we are looking at them critically and glad that they are of the quality that we can be glad to have our farm name associated with them.

We had a guy buy some heifers at the stockyard, and then while paying for them, DS walked into the office to pay for something, they got to talking... and when it became apparent that he wound up buying ours, wanted to know if we had anymore, they were needing 60 ... had bought some,,, we came up with another 5... delivered them to him and he kept on about how much calmer and better dispositioned ours were, That was a nice compliment...

You will get "HOME" and then something will work and you will be ready....

The dairy cows will be fine... they don't have to "work as hard" to make their living since you will have barns/sheds for them and they get "coddled" a bit with being fed and not having to "rustle their own grub" , out grazing all the time.
Thanks Jan. It's not solely the cattle in my emotions at this points. It's the icing on the cake I guess. We've being forced out of our home. It's getting closer to being listed and it's making me angrier and angrier that we are forced out. We are being shafted by the gov at every turn on top of it all. It's just a lot right now. I hope everyone is right and we will be able to move on and rebuild a life. I just can't see it at the moment I guess. It's awfully quiet around here now. I opted not to go to the stock yard today. I always go and be sure our cattle are marketed properly and talk to my regular buyers. I just couldn't do it today.
Congratulations on the heifers. It's always a good feeling and compliment when that happens.
Hopefully we can keep the dairy cows comfortable enough. They are definitely coddled. I'm trying to figure out how to get them moved in the heat as comfortably as possible right now. Giving me something to think forward about I guess.
Thank you so much fuzzi. Sure need those right now.

That's good to know. Will be praying for you all. No matter how many times I hear of someone starting a fire hitting a rock with their tractor mower (how this current fire started) it still surprises me how stupid people are. I see people all the time mowing during the heat of the day with zero humidity to boot. Countless fires are started around here that way. They have signs all over warning people of the risk and yet people still do it.
