Change of plans for the day. And, I didn't realize it but the sun had hit the recording thermometer... so it turns out that was the high as the leaves from the maple shaded it shortly thereafter. I had been out, then back in and didn't realize the sun had come up over the trees already.
So, I went out to take the meters out, and there is DS stopped on the road... he was looking at the peach tree and then drove off towards the barn... I called and said why didn't you let me know you were here... he said, I have been there nearly an hour putting posts up along the side and I have things I need to be doing at the barn... I said okay, whatever... then he proceeded to tell me that he had to cut some limbs off the pines that are sticking out off the big pine trees... and then I told him that they couldn't go in there and pound posts because of the 2 holly trees... and he said well they have to be moved and I said they were not getting moved now... that they can just skip that section and it can get a couple T-posts when the time comes... that they can go around the pines and do the couple corner and brace posts near the fence along the road.... and he started to give me some grief, and then stopped and said, it's your fence you do what you want...
Then he said he needed to get the loader back on the JD that he had the muffler fixed, so that he could start moving bales and getting them stacked in the barn...
I said I was planning on coming down and seeing if he wanted me to start moving bales and he said, if you want to that would be a big help. So, I went down and got in the r&w automatic bale bed truck, he rode out to the field with me and got the tractor and round baler to bring back to the barn and then unhook the baler and get the arms and loader all reattached... and I started bringing bales, 2 at a time, from the field to the barn for him to stack. I got about 10-12 moved by the time he got the loader arms and all hooked back up on the JD and started moving them into the barn. I kept bringing them as fast as I could, but he got ahead of me as we both knew he would. We also were watching the temp gauge, as this is the truck that keeps overheating... and he took it and got the radiator cleaned out good and all at a farmer friends shop... blew out all the little air spaces between the fins and all... It is getting hotter than he liked, I kept a close eye on it... and when it got to a certain spot, told him that it was starting to heat up. By then it was after 1... and he said to quit for now, he was going to take a break from in the tractor as he spent all day yesterday in the tractor with the baler and was really tired out...having to turn sideways in the seat, all the time to watch the baler and the string wrapping the bale since one does not feed right and he often has to get out of the tractor.... plus dealing with his father after that...
I came home, and the guys were here working on the posts... naturally DS didn't call them about the gates being 16 ft... and they had put the posts in for another 14 ft one...... it is an access off the dirt road (not currently used but want to maintain it)....so not the end of the world... but still... so we talked about where they were, what they were doing... and I had them do something different where they were putting the jog in the fence due to trees and rock ledge... they said they were only going to the end of that stretch because DS said he had to cut some limbs. And they would be back to finish the posts next week when they come to do the fence across the road at grant's pasture ... the 45 degree "corner" and down the hill.....
So he and I will discuss this over the weekend... and if they cannot work around the holly trees ... which will NOT be getting moved in the heat of the summer... then that stretch along the big pines will not get posts pounded in...
I got the meters out of the car, put away in the carport in the storage box, and am heading out to go test... Going to stop on the way through and do 2 short errands on the way.
He did say thank you twice for helping get that many bales moved for him this morning... I said all he has to do is let me know things he wants done, instead of me having to chase after him and offer all the time... since I never know what he has planned for her to "help with" at the farm... I feel like I am the outsider there most of the time again... really frosts me.....
Time to head out for work.
