Sorry about Betsy. Is she the Jersey you bought last year? I thought the Jersey was a younger cow. Or is Betsy the Longhorn? Either way, a big loss to you.

If Betsy is the Jersey, Milk Fever could be why they sold her at the end of her last lactation. At least you got a heifer calf from her but a shame you can't raise a couple more on her. As well as the hassle of bottle feeding another calf. :(

Betsy is gone. Not totally surprised... Sometimes it is smarter to not go to such heroic or expensive measures.

Sprinklely rain, barely covering the bottom of the rain gauge. Looks to fizzle out .

Got to get things ready to go test this afternoon. Now have another farm that wants to test next week. Gonna be a crummy day.
I'm sorry.
:hugs

Betsy is the jersey I bought a year ago, with the jersey bull calf on her... and put the holstein on her and supplemented the holstein with a bottle a day for about 2 months....
I had never looked at her teeth closely; I could see some teeth and never took and actually "mouthed her"...

I might see if I can find at least one more calf and bottle raise 2 together...company you know.... Am tossing around the possibility of getting the last heifer to calve, into the barn lot with her calf... and see if she will let this one nurse. She is a half holstein, and if I grain her she ought to be able to raise 2.... So, tomorrow morning, I will see if she is anywhere close to the barn and see if I can get her and her calf into the lot... Alot of "maybe's and if's"....
We have 3 more to calve there... plus the ones still due at the farm... so might need one to graft on a cow anyway... we'll see....

Quick check in... Been a couple long days with testing... Yesterday, DS and GF got 319 and her calf in when I couldn't find Betsy's calf and 319's calf... betsy's calf got out of pen... she was wanting a momma and company I expect... so they got both calves in and 319.... both calves are going on her, she is not kicking or raising a fuss... I think she is not sure if both are hers or not... I am feeding a partial bottle to calf too... will update more after tomorrow...
Home from testing this eve.... fed grain to 319, calf got 2/3 bottle... 319's calf went on her and as soon as calf finished bottle it went on her also... I tested DS to feed grain to her in the morning and then let her out and keep calves in... I will be home 4-5 pm and will bring her back in and haul her some water too... There was a little left from the water I hauled the other day to jersey cow... but 319 will need to go to the water trough tomorrow down the hill. Then I can start letting her out loose for 12 hrs at a time, and leave her in with the calves some... make sure that she will let them both on her even if she is not eating grain... and I want to push her production some too... Supplement betsy's calf for a bit so as to not short change 319's calf either...

Explorer loaded with the chicken crate I need to return to the friend that I got the leghorns and black langshans from... plus a crate of my own ... in case... Planning to leave by 6 the latest tomorrow it'll be wall to wall people again.... weather is supposed to be real nice...

Need a shower and go to bed...
