My daughter is into weaving and knitting. I was wondering if you have a good Alpaca for fiber how much do you get from it? I mean a sweaters worth? A scarf? Or is it to variable.
Thanks
Brian

Everything is pretty variable. It depends on the quality of the fiber. You should get at least one sweater's worth of fiber from shearing an alpaca.

I can get anywhere from 2-4+ pounds usable fiber per alpaca. I get anywhere from 10-30 skeins of 110 yard sport weight yarn per alpaca.

If you're looking into getting fiber alpacas, keep in mind that they are herd animals so you'd need at least 3 for them to be happy. 2 is ok, but 3 is better.
