I left work at 12, came home to change, then headed over to the shelter. I was early, but I waited in the car until 5 minutes to open.

Went in, announced that I was there for "Duckie", sure! Young lady started to take me to his kennel, thought I was there to walk him.

"No, I'm here to adopt him."

Her face lit up "You're adopting Duckie?!" She was obviously excited. I filled out the paperwork.

"You know he has a lot of energy?"

"Yes. I walked him on Saturday."

"Hey! Everyone! Someone's adopting Duckie!"

I got all his info, tags, small bag of dog food. They brought him to me, with a borrowed leash and collar. After a walk around the parking lot and copious watering of the bushes I placed D in the backseat, secured his leash to the seatbelt, and we left for Pet Smart.

One red collar, one red leash, and a training ("choke") collar later I texted the lady who was going to board the dog, and headed for her house.

"C" is a little older than me, but fosters dogs. She said that D is probably still a puppy, 9 months to a year old. I found out as we talked that she's trained service dogs. It showed.

C has a large fenced yard, had me drop D's leash, and he suddenly realized that he could run! She let him wear himself down a bit, then brought out the most laid back of her dogs, a Walker hound. After some introduction she allowed the two dogs to run, repeated the procedure with a Yorkie mix. When D got over zealous, wanting to mount and play, he was corrected with snarls and growls, and he backed off. Then she put D in a kennel run before releasing her third dog, Pepper, who looked like a Rottie mix. That dog didn't put up with any foolery, and after being loosed again D learned quickly to not mess with her.

After things calmed down, some, we went inside with the dogs loose. We sat and talked while the dogs continued to get acquainted. D decided to chew on a dog bed, was checked with a sharp "No sir!" and he stopped.

I am very impressed with this foster lady. She'll be teaching crate training and housebreaking. And she thinks it would be beneficial for me to visit frequently.
