Day 23, no chicks.

I brought three eggs inside and candled them. One smelled, so I opened it to a dead chick.
:hit

Here are the candled egg pictures:

One of those had the dead chick 😭

I put the two back, brought three more inside to candle.

Your thoughts?

I'm willing to accept they're all dead, but I did put the 5 eggs that didn't stink back under Naomi. Maybe #5 is viable.

On #6... did you draw a circle on it to distinguish ones to set or something? If not, it really looks like a blood ring and is dead... See them at a week or more...
Not holding out much hope for any but 4 & 5 might be... although honestly I don't think so. Too much "liquid" showing in the rest.

The incubator is set up.

I've brooded day old chicks before, twice, but I prefer to use a broody. Maybe another one of the hens will get the itch and I can slide eggs under her.

Poor Naomi, she's been so faithful, setting for almost a month. However, I wouldn't expect her to set for another three weeks.

You're right. I do have the date the egg was laid written lightly in pencil on the narrow end. That's too bold a circle/line, and it's not visible on the outside. It must be a blood ring.

#5 looks like it has a really tiny air cell. Usually the air cell gets larger. I would venture to guess that the contents of that egg are possibly swelling? If it were me, I would either throw that one way out into the woods/uninhabited area and see if it explodes when it hits the ground or else gently put it in my trash, seal up the bag and put it in the dumpster.

Sorry.

I don’t see veins in any of those eggs. Tells me they are all dead. :hugs

Could you buy some chicks and slide them under her at night? It’s so sad that she’s been such a good momma and won’t have any babies for all her devotion.
I know.
☹️

It's too hot to ship. I did call Tractor Supply, they have some, but they're standards.
