Oil leaks do come with consequences! I had several on my 2004 F250 diesel truck. First round cost $1200, second round cost $2500. I think they are all fixed now, until next time. Still WAY cheaper than a new truck.
I put a new used engine in the outback... odometer shows 240,000 with 80,000 on the engine... I couldn't have replaced it for the cost of the engine. Put a new reman engine in the forester and a trans for less than several used vehicles I had looked at. They will most likely outlive me... and I drive them in the field with the cows and such... not like they stay on the road......Thanks. The Highlander belonged to my mechanic's MIL, sold it to me when she passed away last year. It should have another 10 years to it, even with that mileage. He's working on getting a 2008 Corolla, 80k on it. If he does he knows I will buy it. The only reason the Camry is not doing well is DS knew it had a slow oil leak, but drove it frequently at 3 quarts or less. He's learned.
ETA: the 2006 Honda Accord just got its annual inspection, and my mechanic said it's in good shape. He has been its mechanic since 2009, bought it from his client and sold it to me about 5 years ago.
That's also the first place I head to when we get home. Do a head count, make sure everyone is there. Hand out treats, while trying to protect my fingers. Bunch of little velociraptors..lolIt does. After I get home from work and change my clothes my next stop is the coops.
Kind of like where's Waldo...lolSitting in a waiting room, as I'm the ride for a friend getting cataract surgery. I decided to edit or delete some of my photos on my phone while I'm here. This one caught my eye, look to the far left, behind the last hen's tail:

I've had the same mechanic for 25 years. He's not the cheapest mechanic, but he stands behind his work. When he told me about his MIL's car (the Highlander) he said he wanted to get me in something reliable for my retirement.I put a new used engine in the outback... odometer shows 240,000 with 80,000 on the engine... I couldn't have replaced it for the cost of the engine. Put a new reman engine in the forester and a trans for less than several used vehicles I had looked at. 200,000 on any vehicle we own is normal... You buying a vehicle from your mechanic is the best thing if they are reliable as yours sounds... Sure, he will take care of it and charge you some money... but if he sells you a lemon, you will not buy any or have him do any more work. Sounds like you have the best of all scenarios there...
All our farm trucks have 200,000 plus on them and they get used HARD....
I will never buy a new vehicle.... the personal property taxes here would make fixing an older one a cheap deal... and insurance..... and lack of "metal" to help protect you.... God Bless anyone that does buy one... and for some it might be smart... after the electronic crap that DS has had to deal with on his dually that was my dad's.... and the explorer stupid stuff... no thanks....
No kidding!Kind of like where's Waldo...lol
The top picture looks a little like my garden paths at the moment. What trimmer did Jan tell to buy? Hubs just bought an EGO, I think that's what it was.It finally dried out a little, and I went to work with the trimmer.

@farmerjan I love this trimmer!
I had to stop, I was too hot. The battery used only half a charge, but I went through three trimmer strings. I hit a lot of fence posts.
