Your yard, flowers and chicks are so beautiful!

You will love having raised beds. We built 4 large, 1 smaller for strawberries and also used a large plastic water container for herbs. They are hip high, so nice to not bend over. We have large cement pavers my husband made from left over cement pours and we also put down landscape fabric.Nothing better than fresh vegetables from the garden. I'm looking forward to wrecking out my back yard area so I can build raised beds and finally plant something here. A friend has raised beds with pavers in between them. It looks so nice, like a dream come true!
You will enjoy puttering around, tackling projects, large and small. No time limits, no boss, just you and doing whatever you want to.
That's the way our drip is set up too. We decided we don't want to bend over as much anymore, so Dale made them tall enough to comfortably work in them.I've got 12 4ftx4ft raised beds - but they are only ~20 inches high, each has a separate drip irrigation line with a shut off and the entire area - even in between the beds - is lined with hardware cloth because of the massive gopher problem.
In your climate the cinder blocks would be a good option. Dale used pressure treated wood on the bottoms of ours.I love my raised beds, they're 8'x4'Ă—16" (?), made of cedar, supposed to withstand the elements. Unfortunately, after only 2 years, between the wet climate and ants the beds are starting to come apart on the corners. I'm thinking of rebuilding them with concrete ("cinder") blocks.
