GLENMAR FARM JORUNAL

The zoo in Lufkin has free range peafowl. They never seem to leave the zoo. They are the blue ones and there are also the pure white ones. For 2 years in a row, I've caught it just right, taking my youngest granddaughters to the zoo when the males are showing off for the females.

Noisy, pretty and good bug, snail and slug eaters.
They also can fly. Some people at our old neighborhood in California had a couple free range pairs years ago. Over 40 years the birds bred and traveled to other areas. Sunland Tujunga (5-10 miles away ended up with a large population of wild peacocks now that live in the brushy hills. They have become quite a nuisance for the neighborhoods and there are arguments over eradicating them or letting them stay because they are pretty. They used to parade around the streets near our elementary school showing off their tails during breeding season. Then we would see the hens with their chicks on the streets. Their screech is bloodcurdling, but in our little community we liked them. LOL

Peacocks are beautiful... do NOT want any, anywhere close to me... They do wander, are noisy as all get out... had some at the small berry farm next door to the historic grist mill I used to work at... they were all over the neighborhood and very annoying... Loud and always in the gardens and such...
