GLENMAR FARM JORUNAL

Yep! They'll be skinned if I harvest. I'll can the meat, that tenderizes it. But I get $14-18 per head at auction, so if I don't "need" the meat I sell. Buys feed. :idunno

I'd love to keep a milk cow & AI her to beef. But back to don't need that much beef OR milk. So goaties here instead. Dairy & meat. Practical & no buyers for half a steer to deal with.
Yes. But even a good goat will give you a gallon a day. I miss fresh goat milk for the cheese, but I don’t want that much work on the farm anymore.

Those days are when you REALLY appreciate friends to share the "fun"..... I can't get anyone around me interested in harvest days. Not even raising them up 🤷 Not many families are as inclined to raise they're food nowadays -- beyond a tomato plant.
And I can't get yard girl to help. She's too much of an animal lover, would be crying the whole time. 🙄

This was 9 roosters my partner and I did many years ago. That was probably the last time I processed a significant number of them. They were Marans, I think.

It's a LOT of work. Bay does 50 or so -- alone! But, well, consider who that is  even over a couple of days it's a huge job. Makes processing veggies sound real good, IMO

Some of my Saanens give close to 2 gal a day. Lotta milk!
Dang. I might have to come buy some milk from you. Yes, Bay is an over achiever. I would not even be riding horses now and I am younger than she is.
The thing about processing meat is it's usually only once a year.

This will help my campaign to get DH on an east coast driving trip! Awesome idea. Thank you!
No problem. We all know the date 5/1. I will have some food choices when it gets closer we can pick.
I do have electric and water hookups for RV parking.
