I went to feed the dogs in the front field yesterday and one of my doelings was upside down, legs in the air and head twisted around. I thought she was dead. I went to pick her up and she was alive. I put her upright and checked her out. She has a little bit of blood on one ear and was shivering but nothing else. Her poop is little pellets, her eyes are nice and red, her temp was 103. She was wobbly and limping a little in the back so my best guesses are injury or meningeal worm. I treated for meningeal, gave her some warm nutra drench and kept an eye on her. Thsi mornign she is fine. She is obviously not feeling great, she was last in line to come in for breakfast but got in and fought for her share in the feeder. She is brousing, chewing her cud and otherwise seems fine. She is a little slower and is keeping to herself but that is all.

Any ideas? Any other suggestions on anything else to do?

Any chance someone hit her really hard / knocked her over?

Only other thing might be a B shot if you haven't already done that.

Good luck w/ her!

In that condition I would worm her and put her on antibiotics. MY guess is maybe someone did knock her down, but she may have allready not been feeling well. Goats can be mean to each other when one is not feeling well and take advantage of them.

I don't have anything else to add but wanted to say that I'm glad she seems better today. Please keep us updated. :hugs

20kids- funny you should mention that. This is one of 3 doelings that I treated two weeks ago for scours. She had a very mild case but since I had one with a bad case I treated them all for cocci, wormed them and gave scour halt. She may just not be feeling better yet.

Roll- That is really my best guess at this point. She got knocked over and just couldn't get herself upright.

She is doing fine. She is still hanging back a little from the rest of the herd but is getting in the feeder and fighting for her share of the grain and finding her spot in the shelter at night. I noticed Jack, my LGD is taking care of her. He is staying near her and snuggling with her. This suggests even more that she got kicked around a little. That dog is a year old this month and is really becomming a fabulous LGD- as long as he is the only dog in the herd. If I put him in with Snowy, he just wants to play with her.

Well, Mercury is fine. All I can think of I had just taken out Maryanne who was bottom goat and in the reshuffle, Mercury wound up on the bottom and got kicked around.

Here she is, looking great. Her one ear seems to have lost some hair, I have no idea what is up with that but she is fat and sassy again.

Here is her half sister Freddy. Hubby named her after I named Mercury. I usually call her heifer.

Gee they are pretty girls! Mercury looks pretty good. The missing hair on the ear is usually an indication that she has been in a bit of a tiff.
