Griffin Wood Ranch- Rabbits

If I understand correctly Chocolate and Lilac are both brown rabbits. The difference if color is D- intense to give Chocolate or dd dilute to give Lilac. Intense is dominant to dilute so a Chocolate rabbit might have a Lillac baby but not the other way around. I think...

Way beyond my understanding....

I found an online calculator that looks accurate! 🎉

Lilac x Lilac gives:
Possible colorsProbabilityAssociated genes
Lilac [Self]78.8%aa bb C_ dd E_

Chocolate x Chocolate gives:
Possible colorsProbabilityAssociated genes
Chocolate [Self]73.8%aa bb C_ D_ E_
Lilac [Self]4.92%aa bb C_ dd E_
Chocolate Sable3.52%aa bb c(chl)_ D_ E_

Lilac x Chocolate gives:
Possible colorsProbabilityAssociated genes
Chocolate [Self]59.1%aa bb C_ D_ E_
Lilac [Self]19.7%aa bb C_ dd E_
Chocolate Sable2.81%aa bb c(chl)_ D_ E_

The problem wth dilute colors (lilac and blue) is that they are diluted shades of the dominant color. To keep the color true you will have to occasionally reintroduce the dominant color. So every so many generations you will have to breed a dark brown to lilac and a black to blue, otherwise the colors will eventually become too diluted. There are books on color genetics for rabbits. I had one (it is packed with the rest of my livestock books LOL). Color genetics can be very complicated. However, since she is only planning on having a trio to start, get whatever colors you like and have fun.

@animalmom Thank you so much! Cassandra and Amelia are so happy!

I am keeping 2 of the double cages 2*24"w x 30"d x 18"h and the 4'x4' cage. I will reconfigure that into 2 grow outs 48"w x 24"d x ?h. So a 8ft wide hanging structure will fit everything.

I'm debating standard wood hutch style per sketch or making an RMC conduit shed frame. The thin walled EMT or top chain link rail definitely won't carry the weight. I can use on-hand hardware cloth to reduce the 1"x2" hole size on the cages to prevent critter grabbing if I do the hutch. The other point is Cassandra is only 4' 6", need to make sure she can reach. Decisions, decisions...
