Exploring the pasture
We dried up our almost 4year old LaMancha goat 4 months ago. Now I have read all the other posts about Mastitis and have followed the treatment suggested. After we dried her up we got her a little extra weight and took her to a friend of ours for stud service. Mind you he is who we bought her from. We called every other day to see how she was and he said she was doing fine. We went after her being gone 2 weeks (because we missed her) to love on her and bring her treats. To our horror her left bag looked more like a soccer ball. We ordered the medicine and began treating her with Tommorrow and of course brought her home. Our CMT test showed positive. From my studying we believe it happened due to trauma to her bag or due to stress of being back there. She is head queen here and latter found out she was roughed up when she first got there. We did the full cycle of Tommorrow in the box plus penicillin, probios, and medicated feed. When we first picked her up she wouldn't eat, was lethargic, and you could just tell she was in pain. Well the problem is we have had to change to tylan200 antibiotic after the cycle of Tommorrow because her bag didn't seem any better. After the switch she has started eating, (not the ravenous way our big Momma once did) she has started getting a little more energetic climbing the rock mounds and running from us when it is time for her medicine
. Unfortunately she still has puss/curdled milk coming out and it is a lot. Probably we are getting close to a coffee cup full 3 times a day. We massage and massage and it is still hard as a rock in some places and others seem to be busting up. Does anybody know of anything else we can do for her. We feed free choice mineral, she is given probios every other day, and has free choice baking soda, and has free choice hay. We have been fighting this for close to three weeks and the battle still goes on. Any suggestions are more than welcomed. She is our big loving girl. Even if she can never produce another cup of milk or bring another beautiful baby in the world she will live out the rest of her life right here on our farm. My better half works for TSC so let me know what I need and I will go get it. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
