The blue eyed, white and deafness is common in most mammals. I don't know the exact mechanism, but the lack of pigment is linked with the same genes that control hearing.
Animals with lack of pigment are more prone to be unilaterally or bilaterally deaf.

Deafness randomly occurs in people and animals, so I would guess it would randomly pop up in the llama population too.

x2 Not that I have any experience with alpacas but that is interesting. What other problems do they have?
