New to this thread. I have my Racka fleece still. It’s hung from a rafters in the barn since 7 July. It’s long and weedy. Is there anything I can do with it ( besides the Bigfoot souvenirs I joked about)? Racka fleece is coarse and used mostly for rugs View attachment 121709

Make rugs or a blanket for on top of bed covers, needle felt or wet felt items from it?
Wash a chunk and see if it looks and feels any better once clean.

Thank you. Looks like a wash tub project. You likely know so much more than I do. All of what I know is from literature where there is an off hand (pun ) mentioned of a hand spindle to tame stubborn fleece. One thing is for certain the production of clothing whether wool, linen or cotton took a LOT of work. May we all take a moment to be thankful for modern clothing.

Barnacles!
Went to level the old rows and decided to move a few tighter.....Gonna move them all tighter! Better blanket that way. But also means the rest of the fleece needs to be spun up!
Horizontal is every hook, vertical was every other one. Now they'll both be every hook.

That'll be two full fleeces in this blanket! Had to go back through the thread to make sure. Periwinkle & Magnemite fleeces.

Also, barnacle is not a word my phone knows.

Ordered new mini clamps!
Gotta make one more roll. And it's not Magnemite's fleece. Idk whose, probably a black mutt ewes fleece. And. Not the full one will be used, maybe a third or fourth? Idk


Gotta mush it down a bit, then add the rest, once made!

Been rewashing this fleece. Too much lanolin.
Ordered some perforated plates to join together to layer wool into, close and sink into the hot water. Plus, easier to transfer to next hot soak, too.
Gotta do micro batches with new fleeces. This is absurd work...

*phew* 2.5 hours and the rest is washed! Now to dry....

It's finally finished!
My blanket made from 1.5 Babydoll Southdown fleeces. 4lbs 5oz weight. No dyes. Core spun. DIY hooked frame.
Just need to tidy up some bits and pluck off vm that made it all the way to the end, lol.

Forgot to update on the blanket.
It's super warm!
Regular pants and tshirt, one thin regular cover and this on top. 2-3 more blankets not required!
I think I may add more width to it, but otherwise, it's great!
Will make a white one some day in the future.
