Got an update, she's working on it still.

Anywho, I ended up starting to spin a bunch, kinda in a messy way, but it turned out pretty good. Got some of Billy wool done, two ply, 131.55 yards.

Spinning up some Cheviot next.

I bet that was a TON of work! Since I am totally ignorant on the subject, is there a "normal" length of fiber in a skene? I'm just curious how much 131 yards is in some form I could maybe visualize.

I have no idea.
Googled it and it seems like it can be anything. =/

One place said it is sold by 7 oz. But the store bought yarn I have varies in weight & yards drastically.

Roughly 4.6 oz of yarn in the one I posted above.

I spin until no more can possibly fit on the drop spindle, so it varies greatly how many yards I end up making.

Here's more pics of the yarn I just finished.

Single ply, loaded the rod until I couldn't fit more.

Finished two plying the single above.

And here is the single split into two, wound up on TP tube, before I plyed it.

I now use a wood dowel, I cut a 4ft one into 1ft sections, added a hook to the top. I use a hair band & anything to weigh the bottom so it spins & remove it once there's enough yarn on to not need the extra weight.

Hmm, seems like selling by weight isn't all that useful either. Some fibers are a lot lighter than others.
