I have an 8 month old mini zebu calf who started limping on his left rear three days ago and has some swelling in his "ankle" joint above his rear hoof. I cleaned his hoof out well and don't see any punctures or cuts but began treating him with penicillin just in case. Today is day three and there is no real improvement but it hadn't worsened. Any ideas? Also, I've noticed lately his poop looks like dog logs. I've dewormed him recently and he's eating well, just doesn't look like cow poop should.

Might be footrot. Penicillin is not very effective on that. I'd get some LA200, Nuflor, Excede, or possibly Draxxin. They are all much better than Pen, and on some of these, one shot lasts a week. As to he poo---it's possible that the foot issue is also causing some digestive upset. As long as he's eating and drinking, I'd not worry about it.

Thanks, are those all vet prescription? He's doing totally fine otherwise, I just moved him to a barn stall hoping some rest might help as well.
