Today felt looooong.
Woke up late by accident. My husband has to drive an hour to go to the SS office. I spelled one of the boys' middle name wrong. 🙄 we changed it many years ago but never got a new ss card for him.
Since I got up late, I didn't have time to make him food before he left.
I got the kids breakfast, grabbed a shower and did some cleaning before he got back, then I had to run to pick up milk.
After throwing that in the fridge, I took the boys to a rock climbing wall. Tomorrow is my middle son's birthday and he wanted to rock climb as his outing.
That went well. I ended up talking to a young man for several minutes because he was interested in my lifestyle. 😂
The boys and I got a couple of ingredients I'll need for tomorrow at the grocery store, then we stopped for lunch. My middle son likes smoothies and had his heart set on an acai bowl. I got a wrap and my other son got some Greek yogurt with a bunch of toppings.
Then an hour drive home. 🥲 we were gone for about 5 hours.
I accidentally fell asleep when i got back. Whoops! Didn't get supper on the table until 8pm. I barely worked on my current cross stitch WIP. That always bums me out.

The birthday boy took scissors to his hair yesterday. He's missing a chunk all the way to his scalp right in the middle of his forehead. 😂
A friend of mine, her daughter did that to herself when she was small. Her haircut to even it out made her look like a boy. That was some 38 years ago!

Another busy day here. DH decided a couple weeks ago that he wanted to slaughter our bull. Since we have such a small herd, the cost to feed him isn't worth the couple of calves we get each year. It felt like a really big decision and I don't have good feelings about it. The cattle are his thing, though, and I didn't have a good reason for why we should keep him. Right now he's out in the yard skinning him out. I helped him out last night with putting the bull in the catch pen and operated the tractor this morning while he was hitching up the body. There's nothing I can assist with as far as skinning. He'll need some help once he's all skinned out and quartered. We'll hang the quarters off the front loader and drive it over to our cooler. Even when quartered, they are massively heavy. We'll transfer them from the front loader to a pulley system inside the cooler. Then they hang in there for however long DH thinks is good. 😊
I'm curious to see how this meat will turn out. Hoping it doesn't have a very strong flavor. I asked DH what his thoughts were as far as cutting him up. He said he would cut out the stakes but he's thinking do most of him as burger. We eat a lot of burger that shouldn't be a problem.
I'm planning to take the kids to the library book sale shortly. They love to read and have some money burning in their pockets, lol.
We got invited over to a friend's house for supper tonight. When I get back from the library I will make some banana muffins to bring, as well as pork fried rice.

Slaughtering a bull is a pretty big job. the biggest animal I ever slaughtered is hogs. Admiration to your husband and to you too because you will help in the cutting and packaging.
Oh, yes. Usually when we're cutting up all the meat, I do all the "in between" jobs... just whatever needs to be done to keep the process moving. Maybe that's putting appropriate sized portions in the bags, running sealed bags to the freezer, or even cutting.
A cow is a huge butcher!! Good job. I'm assuming you have a good, commercial grinder?
It's a big job for sure. We do have a commercial grinder. The thing is a beast. 😂

I have an Oster grinder I bought some 43 years ago, MADE IN AMERICA. I still keep it in the box it came in. It is small, I have to cut the meat in 2-3 inch chunks. I should get a bigger one, I think about that every time I use it, then the job is done and I don't think about any more.
